Momentarily, at least :P
Several significant things have occured, some of which are interesting and others that are not so interesting (or not as interesting as I had hoped).
A while back I was barely accepted into my college of choice, and so I was determined to end my high school career with strong grades. Thus I devoted a large amount of time to school, and eventually graduated (apparently I was in the top 10% of my class). Once finished with high school, I awaited a reply from Microsoft, reasonably confidant that I would get a job there since I was so ridiculously overqualified. The job would pay for college next year and everything would be great.
At least, it would have been.
It turns out that I was competing against the only other intern that was as ridiculously overqualified as I was (We were acquaintances at school). After waiting until nearly the end of June, I finally e-mailed Microsoft in an attempt to get an answer. They did finally reply - I hadn't gotten the job. They had forgotten to send me a canned response about me being rejected. Thanks for nothing. I now have no job over the summer and can only pay for 2 quarters of my college year because I don't qualify for any financial aid whatsoever (The FAFSA apparently thinks my parents will be contributing a fifth of their income to help me :doubt: ). So...
Option A: Work at subway at minimum wage for the entire summer.
Option B: Pray to god I can pick up enough jobs around campus to pay for the last quarter of college.
Of course, because I like doing things the hard way, I picked Option C: Start my own company. I've been planning to do this for ages but circumstances have forced me to begin preparations for the creation of Black Sphere Studios much sooner then anticipated. Thus, I present 2 weeks worth of handiwork: The Black Sphere Studios (http://www.blackspherestudios.com) website.
Unfortunately I've run out of time to work on the website because I need to focus on our actual product instead of a website that has nothing to show except my profile (http://www.blackspherestudios.com/profiles/Blackhole/) and some music (http://www.blackspherestudios.com/profiles/Blackhole/index.php5?view=3) (I still need to move all my music over there too). So I've simply put the website on hold, after spending all day plugging up every last XSS attack vector I could possibly find. Unfortunately I must now focus my efforts on bringing our project to a presentable state so we can begin beta testing as soon as possible, so I will likely vanish once again. But hey, might as well send in a status update here, in case anyone was curious...

Two quarters is coloquially known as half. (Referring to the percentage of term time you can pay for) apart from that, good to see ya mate. . .

Actually, there are only 3 quarters. This is because each quarter is in reference to the season, not the amount of time. So, I can pay for 2/3 of it. The correct term would be trimester, but the university refers to them as quarters, so.......

You should have taken the minimum wage.

I'm more of a MacDonald's man myself.

Could always look into going overseas.

Hire yourself out as an escort to frustrated 30-something housewives...
It worked in 'The Graduate' :nervous:

I would have the utmost respect for you if you did that.

What do you sell?

What do you sell?
A game, and the engine along with it, although my plans go much farther then that. The current expected release date is early 2010.
Could always look into going overseas.
My partner lives in australia :P

1) That sucks. Best of luck to you.
2) Congrats on topic #17000 in GenDisc.

Are you going to do something related to Qasm?

My partner lives in australia :P
Maybe try looking into going there.

The U.S. remains the best place to base a company, despite the economy. Our method of marketing is online, so it doesn't really matter where our company is in relation to what our customers are, it simply determines the laws and taxes. In short, no. I do know like 10 people in australia though :P

It is Qasm.

I see. Well, out of curiousity how much will the university you applied to cost?

The total cost of a year is estimated to be about 20000 (that's including 2200 for "Personal Expenses", whatever that means). My parents are willing to pay the tuition, which is 7900, but I have to pay the room and board, which is 9000 (plus books, which could add another 1k on there). I have 5000 in the bank, so I'm 5000 short (which was supposed to come from microsoft this year). It's about 3000 per quarter, so assuming I can pick up a job on-campus I should be able to rack up the extra 1000 I need for second quarter (plus books), but then I'm 3000 short.

This is the harsh world of adult responsibility. You're still doing better than most. Ever considered stocks and shares? As a supplemental income I mean :)

Buying stocks right now is like buying a wild bronco and hoping he'll run in a straight line :P In the long term, its not actually a bad time to buy stocks since they're at low prices right now, but I'm not entirely sure which companies I would trust with a rising stock value, and i seriously doubt they would get me a significant return in money in 6 months. Due to the very delicate nature of my income, I would only invest in stocks when I had some buffer room in case I lost money. If I bought stock now and lost money, I'd be screwed.

Given the horrific losses in the stock market during the past year I wouldn't recommend it. The stock market boom of the 90's is gone dude.

You must be an in state student, however I wouldn't expect that number to stay so "low" given Washington's budget problems.

Something I always hated about american universities is how the textbook publishers rip you off with such obnoxious price schemes.
