The culinary misadventures of my friends and I often involve Mtn. Dew and legitimate chemistry. Our recent experiments have been so delicious I felt I had to share them with a slice of the cult that worships it - the gaming community. So, here's a some of amazing things you can do with Dew.
Figure 8:
Reduce Mtn. Dew Voltage down on a stove to about 1/4 its original volume. Remove and mix with fourteen tablespoons of sugar, a packet of blue Koolaid, and an equal amount of lemon seltzer. It tastes like sour skittles! It's best to drink it sparingly, the flavor lasts a while and it's very strong. It takes a lot of experimentation to find a perfect balance of reduction of the Voltage and lemon seltzer, but it's worth it. Quite possibly the most amazing beverage ever.
Note - Figure 8 ice cubes taste like extremely watered down Koolaid.
Also, for you who aren't part of the Dew cult and don't know, Voltage is blue raspberry flavored so don't go trying to make this with 7 Up or Sprite.
Raple Syrup:
Reduce Voltage on a stove until it's somewhat thick (not too much or else it turns green and hardens into something with the texture of a lollipop and the taste of burnt caramel) then add a teaspoon of vanilla. Add a couple spoonfuls of butter and allow it to emulsify. Spread on pancakes for DEWCAKES.
Trefoil:
Put vanilla ice cream in a blender and enough regular Mtn. Dew to fill the blender about 2/3 of the way to the top of the ice cream, then level it off with milk. The result tastes much more amazing than you'd think. The Dew and the ice cream both retain their flavors and mix quite well. Also works with root beer, but that just tastes like a float. Using Voltage doesn't quite taste as good.
And, on a different note, we also made flammable ice cubes with isopropyl alcohol.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, Figure 8 makes great slushees. Just add shaved ice!

@Raple Syrup:
Wow.
Why not just get the syrup concentrate from the supplier?
-
Because making it yourself is more fun? Plus "emulsify" sounds cool. :P
Also that would probably be expensive.
-
the secret ingredient in my famous admiral lucifer's chicken, is code red/me runs
-
We're either going to experiment with Code Red or orange Game Fuel next.
-
those sound great if you add booze
-
Yeah except for the part that we're a bunch of 16 year olds and we're buying all of this ourselves... :doubt:

I'd hook you up. I love breaking laws that I personally don't agree with!
-
I also have a running $100 bet with my stepmom that I won't touch alcohol until I'm legal. And I'm Jewish, so...
But hey, if you happen to live in upstate NY, some of my friends might be interested. :P

vodka was the other secret ingredient
-
5 years of drinking > $100
(When you say stepmom I'm assuming you're american and have to wait until 21 for legal booze)
-
here is where you cheat: smoke a joint
-
Indeed, $100 does not buy much drinking time.
-
Either way, it's expensive.
Back on topic...

This man speaks the truth.
On topic: Ehhhh, actually I can't talk about the topic 'cause it makes me wanna throw up.

From a consumate beverage consumption experts point of view . .namely mine, these all sound far too sickly sweet at heart even If flavoured differently. Either my teeth would rot or i'd wake up in a diabetic coma. (Paradoxical I know but work with me here i'm in my flow) just the fact you can boil it down to a semi solid puts me off the stuff. But fill your boots guys  booze based concoctions I can read about no problem.
-
Yeah... these are all best consumed in small quantities.
-
it sounds sweet enough you could mix it with everclear and then not die when drinking the resulting combination.
-
I just had to loosen my belt just from reading that first post.
-
At least as far as 'normal' Gatorade goes, Gatorade powder is much cheaper than bottles of Gatorade. You end up paying for the water, because it contributes so much more to the weight when they ship bottles of the stuff than the actual flavor/sugar part.
Edit: Wait, why am I talking about Gatorade... durrr. Mountain dew.
Edit II: Nonetheless, I imagine the same principle probably stands.
-
Yup, that was the idea behind Figure 8.
Also, edited the OP, turns out it was 14 tbsp of sugar and not 4. :eek2:
-
I made the raple syrup.
Masticating now...
-
I don't drink Dew. Or energy drinks, for that matter. (I know MtnDew isn't, but it kindof IS)
-
I can imagine FIG 8 being used in very small quantities
You know those baby bottle pops? It could be like that.
Consume it in small amounts whenever you need a bad taste outta your mouth!
-
I'd think a good way to drink Figure 8 would be in shots.

Mountain Dew is one of my favourite soft drinks. In Australia it has no caffeine in it because of laws stating that caffeine can't be in non-cola based drinks (according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_Dew)). That doesn't worry me, I don't need stuff to stay awake. :p
-
I don't need stuff to stay awake. :p
I envy you. :(
-
im more of a dr pepper and cheap cola kinda dood
-
More of an Arnold Palmer and 7up guy.
-
that is when im not downing bottles of 100 proof whiskey
