Is this recent release of Nightly Build of 3.6.11 the stuff the Devs need for additional features?
-
Well...the nightly builds are there as a tool for the developers to see if the features they've added or the bugs they have fixed really work as expected. Right now, the SCP is trying to both get 3.6.10 out of the door, as well as starting the development of 3.6.11.

I mean this.

I just downloaded it and it says 3.6.11

Was it all Nightlys after RC3 that did this?
They've been released as 3.6.11 for some time now.
-
So? All nightly builds released in the past two or three months are 3.6.11.
To answer your question: Yes, the devs need this for new features. IIRC, Diaspora will get released after 3.6.11 is declared final, because several features Diaspora needs or wants are only included in the 3.6.11 branch. So, if you want to help them get there faster, but are unable to code, you can test these builds and report any problems you see.

Yep, all nightlies released after RC3 are 3.6.11 builds.

Yes they have been 3.6.11 for quite some time but I believe the version was recently changed to reflect that. So even though they were 3.6.11 they would have still said 3.6.10.
-
Is this a case of people not understanding how 3.6.11 builds have been coming out before 3.6.10 RC3, etc.?
It's because people want to code in new features, but also want to have a version we* can release as the "official" FS2_Open 3.6.10, which doesn't have to worry about bugfixing the features that are just now getting added. Bugfixes from the Release Candidates (that's what RC stands for) will make it into the 3.6.11 builds, but the new features which haven't been bug-tested yet won't jeopardize the stability of the official 3.6.10 build.
*The SCP team which I'm not a member of, but I'm speaking in the first person plural for no particular reason.

Thanks, thats what I didnt understand. The 3.6.11 seems to be working properly, I am not getting any graphics distortion with this build.

...
:shaking:
(It took two years to declare 3610 final)
-
Yeah but we're not doing that again.

Seriously?
-
Two and a half years.
-
Yeah, but the result was that the feature set between the two was radically different. If it weren't for the fact it would have confused everyone we probably would have renamed 3.6.10 to 3.7.

Confuse? How?
-
We been saying that features x,y and z would be in 3.7 for years now. If a build came out without them it would be very confusing.
