VERY new to Freespace 2 Open, and I installed 3.6.10 RC3 this AM, and when I got back from lawn work, noticed 3.6.10 Final was released. In RC3, I had bright white/blue muzzle flash from within the cockpit whenever I fired the main weapon of a fighter. In the final, I seemed to have lost it. How can I get the muzzle flash back on? It was pretty dramatic and made the game for me.
These are the custom flags Im using in my launcher, if the answer lies there:
-ambient_factor 35 -ogl_spec 20 -spec_exp 15 -spec_point 1.2 -spec_static 1.5 -spec_tube 1.5
Thank you ahead of time, and massive props to all the modders who've really breathed new life to an almost 10 year old "sim". Big time Respect! to those who've really taken an open source process to new levels.

Update:
Muzzle flash only appears from within cockpit when looking out the sides, but not when viewing boresight.
-
I thought it was always like that unless you had "show ship" in the ship's tables.
-
If I did, I wouldnt have done it on purpose LOL. If that is the case, how do I go about "redoing" it?

:welcomeorange:
I doubt you had the flag on. If I'm reading right, you have no table modding experience, yes? You would have to go into the ships table and put "show ship" in the flags section... for each fighter that has a cockpit that is. It would likely just obstruct your view with a big black plate if there was no cockpit in the model.

Absolutely none with this game. Other games yes.
I know in the mission "the Romans blunder", the ship Im flying had muzzle flashes whenever I fired the guns, and now it doesnt. Im not sure about the show ship table, as I have yet to play with the mod other than to install it and run it.

Okay, here's something to try. Can you make screenshots of the effect in question and its absence? The RC3 builds should still be available, so redownload them if you have to. To take screenshots in game, hit the "Print Screen" button. The game will create a "screenshots" directory in the game folder, and will save the screenshots in .tga format in there. Convert them to jpg, and post them here.

Muzzle flash is in upper right corner, looking out the left of the cockpit.

Right. Now, to recreate the circumstances. Load up the 3.6.10 final build. Go to the Techroom, and use the simulator to play "The Romans Blunder" again. Use the same ship, with the same loadout as before. See if you can see the muzzle flashes. If you don't, switch to external view (The "," or "." key on the numpad, fire your guns, and see if the muzzle flash is visible).
My current assumption is that it's something to do with the ship type you're flying, and the "Eyepoint" where the camera is located.

From the external view, the muzzle flashes are quite lovely :D
How would I adjust the camera from within the cockpit?

Extract the model with VP view, open it in PCS2, adjust the viewpoint, save as .pof file.
Then create a folder named MYMOD in your game directory, in the folder create a folder data, in that one create a folder named models.
Place the edited ship in there, in the launcher go to the mod tab, select MYMOD, hit apply run the game and enjoy.
