Title: Suns are out of place
Post by: Nissan on July 21, 2009, 03:27:44 pm
I've noticed something weird when playing FS2 Open recently--the sun never seems to be where it's supposed to be. In the JAD missions where you're supposed to start out facing directly into the sun, it's actually off to the left... and in the final missions of the main FS2 campaign, the sun isn't where the radar shows the Sathanas fleet to be gathered.

This never used to be a problem, and unfortunately I'm not entirely sure when it started. Any idea what might be wrong? (Sorry if this is has come up before... I searched but couldn't find anything on the subject.)

Hmm. Are you using the latest (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,64520.msg1271916/topicseen.html#msg1271916) FSO version?

Yeah, I started using the new builds today... but they didn't change much, unfortunately.

There's another issue I noticed: the Hatshepsut in JAD 2 that's supposed to have a Terran texture just appears as a regular Hatshepsut. Maybe the problems are related?

Could be related to the fact that, IIRC, the mediavps textures got renamed a while back, so maybe the texture replacement sexps don't work anymore. You should ask Axem to fix that.

EDIT: As for the problem in the first post, I can't confirm that. Does it make a difference if you use the latest mediavps, downloaded directly from the release thread?

I've been using the most recent MediaVP files. Right now I have each of the VP files separately, so I could install MV_Complete and see if that makes a difference...

Also, I went back to play each of the problem missions again, and it's really only a major issue in JAD. In the late FS2 campaign the sun is only slightly off... like if I center the sporadic cluster in my radar, the sun is just outside the HUD. So that might not be a significant problem.

Probably not, since all the MediaVPs (except MV_Music) contain exactly the same files as MV_Complete. And a while back there were some multiplayer performance issues with MV_Complete due to its enormous file size. If you've downloaded the MediaVPs manually (as in, not with Turey's FSO Installer), they should be alright.

I think in the second mission of retail, with the asteroid base with the Iceni is inside, the sun is in a different location than FSO. I also noticed the same thing where the Sathanas fleet doesn't match up with the radar, so your not alone in this.
