Title: "Invulnerable" doesn't work
Post by: Aardwolf on July 21, 2009, 06:08:03 pm
It doesn't. Guardian works, but not invulnerable. At least not invulnerability to friendly fire.

Eh?

If this is a bug report get it in Mantis with a test mission to demonstrate this behaviour.

I think this is related to a little mission we played around with in multi last night.
We had several invulnerable and ship-guardianed (IIRC) ships on the field, all equipped with SAAA beams. We noticed that, despite invulnerability being set, it was still possible to kill other players, which was kinda unexpected.
The mission in question is attached.

Invulnerable has never worked for player ships in multi.  It would be considered a cheat to give players the ability to rack up kills and scores like that.

It's not like the mission is recognized so the scores wouldn't count anyway.
If I really wanted to rack up kills and score, invulnerability isn't needed.
I'd just make a mission tons of, say, SF Aeshmas, set their score to 100000, disable them all, turn off shield system (all through initial status), give the player a maxim. GO. Oh, lets set them all to 1% HP to start with for good measure.

Yeah, well, there's no reason invulnerability shouldn't work.

I'm just saying that's the way :V: looked at it.  It would make it possible to slip something past validation for a TvT possibly giving one side an advantage.

And ship-guardian works because it's easier to detect? O_o
Doesn't seem likely.

Looks like a bug to me.

I don't know if it worked in retail multi or not.

Ah well, whatever the case for retail, if guardian works in SCP there really shouldn't be any reason why invulnerable doesn't.

What's the difference between ship being guardian and invurnable?

Guardian means that you can take damage to your hull up till you have 1% left.
You can still lose your subsystems.

Invulnerable means you can't take damage at all.

Both prevent you from dying, but guardian looks a lot better on ships you want to survive but take damage.

Unless it gets stuck at 1% for a while.

Ummmm, when and how are you making them invulnerable out of interest (Don't have time to look at the mission)? Cause although most people haven't noticed for the first 5 seconds after a respawn or until you fire you are invulnerable. After that the game wipes the flag.
