Title: Check this out...
Post by: Thaeris on July 23, 2009, 02:38:07 pm
Seeing as 3.6.10 is final... but possibly with a few kinks left in it, I've decided to hold out with 3.6.9 for a little longer. In this way, the problems will hopefully resolve themselves... well, you know... (SCP and FSU teams lash out against bugs with the proverbial fly swatter...)

Given this condition, I was suddenly curious as to what the official high-poly Valkyrie looked like... seeing as the latest version of FreeSpace Port is for 3.6.10, I resorted to Google for the answer.

No, I have yet to find an image of the "official" Valk VP (there's the other one on the HLP here somewhere, the rounded one...), but I did find this: http://paperinside.com/pericles/freespace/

I've never really resorted to paper models before, but I think it's a rather novel idea for FreeSpace. Of particular note would be the original meshes (the basis for the Hercules seen in the link above), seeing as their simple geometry would be easily enough converted into a 2D template - thus allowing for a scale model to be made. VP models would really be something else, though...

There is no reason to still use 3.6.9. Except if you LIKE dealing with all the bugs that were fixed in 3.6.10.

I'm merely noting some of the preliminary bugs reported on the HLP to date... I'll upgrade the program soon enough  :)

You know that 3.6.9. has EVEN MORE bugs, right? Plus no shaders? Plus no multiplayer support? Plus no proper support for widescreen monitors?

It's designed to work with 3.6.10 though, right? I've also held off with the upgrade due to the deficiencies currently intact with Turey's installer. As the wiki has yet to be updated (if I recall correctly...), I've not quite willed myself to manually drudge through the individual elements needed to complete the install. I can wait a while... or not. It's really not that big of a deal.

@Der Colonel:
Well, it does have to do with art. The subject matter was shifted by individuals other than myself.

Yes, FSPort 3.1.1. is designed for 3.6.10. To get a complete install, you just have to download the mediavps and the fsport manually. The mediavps are really the only part which gets fuxx0red by the installer.

Righto (in regards to FS Port). Might have to find the proper exporter/importer tools for those models some time. A few line drawings might be neat to have. I think a trip to the wiki might be in order.

By the way, has someone actually taken a look at the link given in the first post?

Paper models are old news. It's been 'discovered' at least 2 times, and was posted here before that.

Use 3.6.10. It takes one download (a couple more if you want the MediaVPs) and it fixes oh so much.

It's not difficult at all to install things manually. In fact, everything on the Installer is fine barring the mediavps and outdated 3.6.10 unofficial builds.

As I said in the move thread, not certain whether this belongs here or in the SCP Forum, but moved, nonetheless.

hip63 released an installer that's made specifically for the latest of all of the MediaVPs and builds.

I am now in complete agreement with Colonol Dekker. This now has nothing to do with paper anything... Silly topic to begin with, but then, that's what the art thread is for.

Rather than move the topic, I suggest that it be locked IF no one cares about the original subject matter.

Thanks to everyone who offered their assistance in the upgrade process, by the way.

What the heck was this topic about anyway? Other than Thaeris being ignorant, I mean.

That's really immature. Concerning your own ignorance, why don't you actually read the friggin' thread.
