Hello, im new to FS2 and i was wondering what is the first campaign i should play. Is it FS Port? Thats the first FS game right? Whats next?
Thanks.
-
1st - FS Port (yes it is the first one)
2nd - Silent Threat (expansion pack for the FS1)
3rd - FreeSpace 2
4th - whatever you want, much to choose from :)
hip63 :p
-
FSPort first, then Silent Threat: Reborn, then FS2. That's what I would play, anyway.
-
I agree with the above posts. Just make sure its Silent Threat Reborn, and not Silent Threat.
-
You will do best if you play both original (Volition's) Silent Threat and Silent Threat Reborn (fan made remake of ST), then compare them to each other.
For 4th I'd like to recommend Blue Planet (obviously - but I would have done it even if I wasn't in team) . :)
After it Sync and Transcend, then Ghost Revanants.
Also, keep in mind that sometimes somebody releases something new, so be sure to check here for new releases.
And don't forget that if you get bored by FreeSpace universe there is a couple of total conversions (and even mods when search closely) that are set in different universes, ussualy related to film, TV series or another game. (though some mods, like Allied Worlds, are set in universes made entirely by their authors)

Why not play TVWP first, if you want to go on a timeline?
-
Because TVWP has only one chapter released, isn't canon, and doesn't really lead into the main FS storyline as-is? :p
-
Still fun.
-
Play FSPort, Silent Threat: Reborn, FS2, Blue Planet, Derelict, and Transcend.
From there, The Procyon Insurgency and Windmills.
With that you'll have hit up most of the 'core' great campaigns from the past few years.
-
What about Homesick, S:AH, JAD? What about SGWP2?
-
Homesick was quite strong but a B-campaign; S:AH is part of the whole Inferno deal and thus probably best saved for after this primer in good campaigns; and JAD is a humor series which you could try out when you're familiar with the cliches of campaign design.
-
Yeah, Homesick really didn't have the same effect for me as many good campaigns. Same with ITDoH.
-
;-)
-
The original isn't that balanced but its good play out canon.
-
Homesick was quite strong but a B-campaign
I'd argue this point, but then Homesick was only the second campaign I ever played so I perhaps have a special fondness for this one. In fact, Transcend is probably worse in terms of play quality.
-
Transcend isn't really about gameplay anyway, but it's still brilliant.
-
[nitpick]
FSPort != FS1
FSPort != the first game
Though yes, the FS1 campaign can be played with FSPort.
[/nitpick]

I would agree with that. Transcend was the same mission played 45 times over. Ransom's other campaign, Sync, is a lot more enjoyable.
And what the heck, no one mentions Derelict or Inferno????
-
Both have been mentioned, and Derelict was in my list of stuff for him to play right off.
