Title: Mjolnirs: MY WORST ENEMY
Post by: Snail on July 25, 2009, 05:25:37 pm
Okay, so I've placed them. Okay, so they're pointing in the right direction.

HOW DO I GET THEM TO FIRE!?!?!!?

Is there a trick or something to this?

(and before you ask, it is beam-free'd, I'm not a retard)

Are you using the Mljonir "beam home" variation or the standard one?
The standard one will fire only if the target is precisely in line of fire, but the "beam home" will allow some flexibility.

The beam is also 90% off center so you have to do some special stuff to align it.  Used to be instructions on the old VBB.  Don't know if they are around here or not.

What you ought to do is follow V's original technique. Use the standard, non-homing Mjolnir beam, and use a fire-beam event triggered by the enemy ship's arrival.

The beams fire into empty space, but then the enemy ship has to pass THROUGH that space. This creates a grid of beams that carves up any ship passing through it like cheese wire.

And then all you do is watch the fireworks.

Meh. I just throw down a temp object in the path of the ship departing the node and then point the Beamsats at it. Ship exits node, flies through that spot, and gets blasted. No big deal.

Yeah, that annoyed me SO MUCH I downloaded some forward-facing one.

Thanks for that, I'll try that one out.
