Hi All,
I am stuck on this campaign, The Great Hunt. I can never get Delta wing to jump before me. I FINALLY got them to jump before me but that was seconds after I was told I was too late and the Lucifer is getting away. I jumped anyways and arrived in hyper space alone. How the heck do I complete the mission properly?

As it turns out, you don't actually have to worry about any of your wingmates jumping out in this mission. Provided you get to the node in time, any of your wingmates that are still alive (which should ideally be all of them, since there's not a ton of Shivan resistance in the mission) will appear with you in the final mission, Good Luck, whether or not they physically made it to the node themselves. It's a bit counterintuitive, but that's the way the mission is designed. I did manage to get everyone else to the node in time once by keeping them formed on my wing, just for the hell of it, but it's not necessary at all.

Hum, I have been using http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/The_Great_Hunt as reference.
Delta is the wing with all the harbringers. They never have a scratch on them at the end, but when I reach the node and jump the message says 'Your going to have to do this without delta'. They show up in the wing formations, but are not an option in the command window. So I cannot select them and tell them to take out the reactors. They dont seem to ever make it into hyperspace.

They are made inorderable so that they only do their own thing - taking out reactors.
-
ah so should I just concentrate on taking out the fighters?
-
Make sure Delta has launched before you jump out. If you're in a Valkyrie and you're really running to the node it's possible to jump before they are launched.

Thanks, I guess I misunderstood the Wiki... anywhoo.... just beat FreeSpace 1. Yay! What a fun experience. Next is FreeSpace 2 and then the Babylon total conversion!

Play Silent Threat Reborn in between the two!

Oh yeah I almost forgot!

Heh! Interesting story, and I admire your perseverance. :) You've discovered one of the somewhat confusing aspects of red-alert; only ships that are currently in the mission will be brought to the next mission. So even though they managed to jump out within the node, they jumped out -- so as far as the game engine is concerned, they're no longer available.

It's on our to-fix list for 3.2.

For that mission, I always use a Herc loaded with interceptors. From the moment the mission starts, I put all energy into the engines and go all out for the node. Every time an enemy wing tries to cut me off, I just keep running for the node, taking evasive jinks as I go. Eventually, each of the enemy fighter wings breaks off and I continue on unimpeded. When the HOL destroyer jumps, its a bit of a hold-your-breath situation as to whether its gonna whack you or not, but I usually slip by and jump out. My entire plan is to get to the node and jump out without wasting any missiles or losing any hull integrity. That way I'm in tip-top shape for the subspace mission, and I'm flying the fighter with the strongest hull and biggest missile capacity (outside of the Athena).

How the hell do they fit so many missiles on the damn Athena?
Yeah, Trivial Psychic, I use your strategy--that HOL ship is quite a scare.
