That was then:

This is now:

SF Kali

GTB Atlas

Not quite "aldo" but they are more than simple bunches of polygons.

I suppose you're going to want me to do this, right?

they do look a little beter with textures, but I still don't like them, textures don't look that realistick over most of the model, it's too flat, it is sort of like the homworld stile, and I didn't like homworld models\textures.
have you gotten them in game yet?
generaly when I dislike a ship and have nothing positive to put forth, I remain silent, but becase you quoted me, I feel I am required to respond

not sure what you mean by that....

Bobboau: those are just testing textures, in game they look pretty good, but pofs still need to be properly converted.  As for the flatness, those textures for the Atlas were done in MS Word and have yet to be edited.  Personally, i dont think they're that bad.  But honestly, do they still look like simply polygons?

Dammit! I think I am the only non-newb modeler here that can't texture...

if you have truespace and PSP (or equivelent) I can teach you a neat little texturing tecnique

Mapping is easy. Texturing is a b!tch.

Ok, so the Kali was a bit polygonish....but i think the Atlas looks kinda nice.  This is my latest creation: the GTF Wraith.  562 polys in lod0.

BTW: if you call this one a bunch of polygons im going to have to hurt you...

fairly nice...but rotate the guns 45 degrees, it looks soo much nicer.

Hmmm...on the design...if you closed up the intakes on the engines...it would look like a freighter...

Only comment on it as a fighter is make the cockpit bigger, as it is it looks like a freighter.

ok go here  (http://www.bendys.com) and get the extruder
then use a UV template and make a basic bump map (use black to define seems, like the edges of armor plating, and white for higher sections) for a section of you're texture, I recomend haveing this section at 2 or more the final resolution for that texture section
make a copy of this image, and make basic collor sceam you want
then make a copy of that and make a shine map, what ever parts you want to be shiny, as shinines this is usualy related to colors
use the extruder with the bump map yopu made (make sure you use the right file format, uncompressed 24 or 16 bit TGA)
now you need to set up the material for it,
under color use layered colors, set the main layer as a texture map useing the color map you made, in sublayers add some light noise, ou may want to use some of the other maps you mad, or just set it's transperency
in the refletince set it as layered, set the main layer as matte
make two more layers one with chrome 2d and the other with conductor set these two with the shine map you made, it may be a good idea to ma a specal map for certan colors and use conductor set with this color
apply this material to the extruded object you made, make sure you have only one infinite light pointing down slightly.
render with high quality and zoomed in as closely as posable
now I am sure I have confused you throughly enough,
just play with that plugin for a while, look at some of the others they have there

from a link of the site you linked i found also this.. http://www.primitiveitch.com/php/catalog.php?uiKeySearch=Unwrapper+1.1&

my god there are a lot of tools in that site that seems damn useful!
look at this for example, it will solve (if it works as they saiy) a lot lot lot of problems to me : http://www.primitiveitch.com/php/catalog.php?uiKeySearch=Fusion+1.0&

compare the Wraith size wise with the Apollo.  You'll notice that the overall size to cockpit size ratio is rather close to the same on both.  The Wraith does have some nicely oversized engines.  To put it simply, the Wraith was designed to combine the firepower of a heavy assault fighter with the speed of a interceptor, and still keep the ruggedness of a superiority fighter.  Needless to say this will not be player flyable.  If you're intrigued and want to learn more, you'll have to play my campaign :p.

When you say created in MS Word, do you mean the obvious that you actually went in and played with the drawing tools that come with that? If so, you have my respect (If only for inhuman atience :) )
