it seems rather odd that one fighter can make 20 kills in one mission. how in the world could the shivans have beat us up so badly if the fighters are so easy to kill? this goes for the enemy vasudan and NTF fighters as well. the whole thing is sort of one sided, don't you think?

Actually, I'd really like itt if, like the hostiles, we had several wings of reinforcements. That would make it more realistic - as we find it easy to get rid of the enemy, they will find it equally as easy to take us out. The reinforcements on both sides should balance out.

Unfortunately, I've adapted to playing Insane all the time. Maybe I should fool around with the AI.tbl and make them harder. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

To make it harder, edit the ships .tbl and remove all shielding systems from terran ships, and fly like we used to in the Great War. Well, the first part of it anyways.

Hmmm...maybe I'm just behind, but killing Shivan fighters on insane is pretty danged tough. Dodging them isn't so bad, but good luck trying to do both at once...
Then again, I've been doing my serious dogfighting with all the fighters moving at twice the default speed. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif) Maybe that has disturbed my judgement.

Nah, fighters aren't so bad. You get to using your missiles more efficiently and you get more satisfaction from taking every ship down. What's really hard is taking out the four main cannons and the back cannon of the Sathanas - all on insane - that is hard. Sure, you can do that (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) There's some interesting opportunities in there. There's a courage factor, aiming factor, etc. etc. - you can make sniper pilots who are bad at controlling their ships, so they can hit things far away but can't dodge much. Or you can have green pilots that run away at the first sight of danger (cowards - I think there is already an AI class for this).

Well, I wouldn't be so quick to say that the Freespace AI program sucks. After all, it really does depend on the difficulty level you have it set to. When I first increased the difficulty level from very easy to easy, I found out very quickly not to do cirten things, like charge a Shivan Corvette in a Serepiet fighter, or to make a half *** attempt at dodging even the lowley terran turret. I also found out that once you start to crank up the difficulty level, the AI program stops drinking and flying and actually starts to aim well enough to hit the broadside of a barn!
And if you are a Setekh and find the game too easy for you on insane, and are tired of kicking the crap out of newbies in squabble war, try telling one of your wings of fighters to go hide in the fighter bay and see if having several more fighters shooting fire up your *** dosen't make the mission a little harder!
