Title: Curious Graphics Problem
Post by: Petrarch of the VBB on April 01, 2002, 11:47:31 am
This topic is also on the Vbb

I have a problem in that whenever a ship fires a beam, the targeted ship can be seen through the beam. Even though the beam is physically in front of the ship. It a sort of clipping problem you'd expect to see in an FPS and is very annoying. it happens mostly with the targeting laser but has happened with normal beams too. Does anyone have a solution?

I would post some screenies showing the problem, but I don't know how.

Look at the properties for the pics.  They link to his c:/MyDocuments folder.  And we don't have those pics in our MyDocuments folders so we can't see them....but he can.

Yes it was :D

And I'll say it again....this is a COMMON problem experienced by all.  Sometimes its more noticable than not, but its always there.  Its not a problem, the world is not coming to an end (yet), and so you should rejoice and be happy and eat some popcorn (or easter eggs).  Ok :D

Well how can I get images to appear on here then? That is without them being somewhere else on The Net?

Unless you upload them to a file server on the internet you can't get them to be viewed by others on the internet.

And we don't have file uploading here because of all the technicallities it causes - most people have an FTP space of some kind these days anyways...

Zeronet, you have no idea....I was sent 100 BMP's once because I was supposed to be image manager at FreeSpace Watch.  Thank god that link is gone :)

I feel your pain.

You really don't need to show us pictures of this particular "problem" because its not one.

Now, if you just want to know for future reference it works like this.

You're machine is probably not permanently hooked to the internet.  Even if it is, its not handeling requests for people to download images off it.  Trust me, you don't want to setup your machine to do this unless your really serious, experienced, and technically knowledgeable to do it.

Your best bet is to post it to some FTP space.  FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol.  All of these websites you visit, people use FTP to put their sites on FTP servers that are configured for people to view them from the Internet.

Nearly every major and minor Internet Service Provider gives you some sort of FTP space to play around with.  I get 5 MB per e-mail, some people get 5MB total, some get 10MB, some get 2MB...it all depends.  Regardless, what you should do is ask your ISP (service provider in other words) on how you can access your FTP space and what software they recommend you use to do it.
