Title: Help...
Post by: Deritsuku on August 16, 2009, 05:24:06 pm
Hello,

I am new here, and I need some MAJOR help...

I recently installed FreeSpace 2 Open from one of my friends installation files.

As you can assume, I was pretty exited.

Then came the error notes....

A list of the errors was pasted below:

Error:
Web cursor bitmap not found.  This is most likely due to one of three reasons:
   1) You're running FreeSpace Open from somewhere other than your FreeSpace 2 folder;
   2) You've somehow corrupted your FreeSpace 2 installation, e.g. by modifying or removing the retail VP files;
   3) You haven't installed FreeSpace 2 at all.  (Note that installing FreeSpace Open does NOT remove the need for a FreeSpace 2 installation.)
Number 1 can be fixed by simply moving the FreeSpace Open executable file to the FreeSpace 2 folder.  Numbers 2 and 3 can be fixed by installing or reinstalling FreeSpace 2.

As you can tell, things got really frustrating.....  :mad:

Can anyone please help me out here?

Thanks

Read the error report. It is the most self-explanatory one there is. It even gives you a list of probable causes and solutions.

1) You're running FreeSpace Open from somewhere other than your FreeSpace 2 folder;
2) You've somehow corrupted your FreeSpace 2 installation, e.g. by modifying or removing the retail VP files;

All the other errors spring from that one.

Now that you mentioned it...

There was one file that the Installer couldn't install. It was called Homesick, which brings up another question: will a missing level cause all those error messages?

Thanks

........

You are missing the files from retail FS2.
Do you have these:

Code: [Select]
root_fs2.vp
smarty_fs2.vp
sparky_fs2.vp
sparky_hi_fs2.vp
stu_fs2.vp
tango1_fs2.vp
tango2_fs2.vp
tango3_fs2.vp
warble_fs2.vp
in your FreeSpace 2 folder? If not, you will have to install FreeSpace 2 first. To do that, you need either the original CDs, or you need to buy it at Good Old Games (http://www.gog.com/).

The FSOInstaller will NOT download these files.

Will it work if I copy the files from a demo CD of FreeSpace 2?

I take that back....
I'll be missing files tango_1 and tango_2

The demo cd is most likely missing several other files as well. Like the entire single-player campaign, for example. No, you need the full version of FS2. Install that, then run the FSOInstaller on that directory.

Thanks for the help.
