Title: Re: An interesting parallel
Post by: Leeko on August 20, 2009, 12:46:20 pm
Too bad I don't think there's any programs (Impulse and such) that have Homeworld 1 or Cataclysm.

Ever heard of piracy?
To quote Eskil Steenburg, developer of LOVE, on his viewpoint of it, "It is a duty, not a right, to break an unjust law."
So, if you want either of them, feel free to do your duty. Digital Rights Management is more immoral than "stealing" a piece of software.

You chose wrong forums to support pirating in. Enjoy your 30-day vacation.

The terms of use I had to agree to in order to register this account says:

Quote
Please note that with each post, your IP address is recorded, in the event that you need to be banned from this forum or your ISP contacted. This will only happen in the event of a major violation of this agreement.

The sticky in the Announcements section has this to say:

Also, HLP will not tolerate the posting of pornography or warez files anywhere on the site. However the discussion of a pornography or warez related topic is still allowed.

If you disagree with my position on piracy, it also has this to say:

Quote
Lively and interesting debate is encouraged and welcomed. However we ask that members respect the right of free speech.

Please respect my rights. I am not breaking any laws by talking about piracy, or even supporting it. I have not provided a link to a warez site, only expressed my position. That's all I have to say. I won't continue to bother you on this account. Perhaps lively and interesting debate would have been a better alternative?

I agree. The rule of thumb followed so far is that discussion is allowed, and voicing opinions about the subject is allowed, but linking to actual warez is a nono. Since that hasn't happened here, I don't quite see how a banning, even temporary, is warranted.

In this post Leeko encouraged Commander Zane to pirate Homeworld and Cataclysm which is a violation of terms as is linking to warez. Provoking unlawful act is an offence as is committing it. Directly encouracing someone to pirate a game is going too far. I'm sorry of you disagree with me, but there you have it.

Now, back to original topic please.

Piracy has been encouraged before, particularly with the game we're actually about. You can't have it both ways, Fury.

Yes I can. Topic split and locked.

Edit: Ban shortened to seven days as is more appropriate for a first-timer.
