Title: RELEASE: Warzone SCP v2.3.2 (Beta version)
Post by: Mobius on August 23, 2009, 04:40:45 pm
The FSCRP Team is proud to announce that a further upgrade of Warzone is now available for Beta testing. I wished we could take care of testing all by ourselves, but as community project the FSCRP has all the right to get consistent support from the community as a whole.

What's changed since the old version? Well, a lot of things. A while ago, Admiral Nelson asked for a quick sanity check of his latest update of the campaign, so I played through it. During my playthrough, I decided to make consistent changes (all mentioned in the change log) and test them many times. They wouldn't have been possible, of course, without Admiral Nelson's previous work, MP-Ryan's support and the valuable testers, Macfie and SF-Junky.

The reasons why me and Macfie decided to release this Beta version to the public is simple: the development of many campaigns the FSCRP is working on has been effectively slowed down by the shortage of testers, so this is a much needed attempt to allow community members to help us. The team will be monitoring this thread and will also have full consideration of your reports. We hope to get Warzone SCP done once and for all, and then upload it to sites like FSMods, GW and ModDB. I haven't done this now due to the temporary nature of this Beta version, which is stable but still not definitive.

I know some members would expect this version to feature voice acting, but I'm afraid you'll have to wait. I'd be glad to resurrect the voice acting in the foreseeable future, but at the moment I think it's very important to make the campaign bug free and ensure it's quality.

Credits:

Original 2.2 version: Admiral Nelson
Versions 2.3.0 through 2.3.2: Mobius
Testing: Macfie, Mobius, SF-Junky
Support: MP-Ryan

All members of the team have learned a lot from Admiral Nelson's amazing work, and I hope he'll be proud to find this upon coming back. :)

About 70% of the voice acting stuff is done. Anyone who want to help getting it done, go here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=47163.msg1292106#msg1292106)  :D

There is also a SVN Repository (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=58356.msg1184250#msg1184250) online.

Got a bug for y'all. In mission 3, the shivan cruiser arrived only after the Warlock had already departed, which makes the dialogue a bit weird.

I playtested E1M3 "Premonitions" several times now and the problem never showed up.

What FS2Open version do you use? What ist the name of the shivan cruiser that arrived after the Warlock had already departed and what dialogue do you refer to?
Title: Re: RELEASE: Warzone SCP v2.3.2 (Beta version)
Post by: The E on October 01, 2009, 02:59:15 pm
Used a nightly, 5613 or 5615.

Don't remember the name of the cruiser right now, but the dialogue was something like "Shivan cruiser has arrived, she's gunning for the <Insert friendly cap ship here>"
God, I'm terrible with names today...

Sidenote: Would you mind changing your sig so that it no longer refers to engine builds that are waaaay out of date? Like all the 3.6.9 builds? Support guy says thanks.

Maybe this one?

"The Geryon has arrived and is powering up it's beam cannons for an attack on the Warlock!"

Then I see the problem - you're to slow to destroy the waves of fighters and bombers  :)
I'll fix that...

For the old builds in the sig: These are builds for MacOS X only. But it is a good idea to remove the links to the older builds, at least for Freespace2.

Okay....

And no, it's not enough. 3.6.9 builds are just too old, no matter what OS you are using. And what's this PBO fix? Also note that there are official .10 builds for MacOS in the release thread.

Bug report:
Running Nightly 5615 debug, got the following Assert during mission load of the mission when you first leave the nebula:

Mobius removed accidentally the texture 'cry05a' in 2.3.2b as it is in /data/maps in previous Warzone versions. I added it again. Thanks for the report!
(btw:  'cry05a' is used for the Vidar-debris)

While on the subject, I just noticed that the vidar.pof has some typos:

"Cyrochamber5" should be "Cryochamber5" etc

Hello ,

Now i played the first 3 missions and no problems at all.
The only i missing is the Communication beep that i know now comes new Communication.
If the Campaign delivered with Voice then the beep is not longer necessary.

Greetings Peter

I played Warzone through and must say it is a fine Campaign.
The difficulty level is very moderate and (i like this) i must never replay a Mission in a result of a failure.

But i think i found a little Mistake: by joining the 636th Wolfpack will be shown a wrong Squad logo in the pre Briefing Video. There shown the 70 Lions (i must again take a sharp look).

But in the Missions all be superb.

I Played Warzone on a Athlon 64 XP, 1 Gig Ram, ATI-Radeon X800 pro

SCP 3.6.10 Final+Mediavps

Greetings Peter

Any news about voice acting ??

About 95% done.
One main person missing. Voice actor disappeared.  :(
Work is ongoing. Release hopefully before mid-2010.

how can i tell which version of the campaign i have?  i got warzone via the 3.6.10 offline installer campaign pack, and i'm getting an error on "Northwest Passage" that says i fail, even though i protected all ships and accomplished all objectives.  it is using the mediavps, which i would think means i already have the SCP build, and the only solution i found searching the forums for this problem was downloading this version.

This version is the most up to date available.  The one with the installer pack is an older version.

now i see "beta" in the title, and i usually avoid non-final releases.  is this one stable enough that i should be able to just play through it?

Yes, this release mainly corrected problems with the previous release.

I hate to be seen to commit thread necromancy (Though I do dearly love the black robes, skull-candles and pentagrams inscribed with runic symbols depicting threads long dead), but I just thought I'd ask if any luck was had in tracking down the last voice actor and getting it finished?

Is there an ETA? I get the feeling since this is part of the Derelict continuity (Undoubtedly one of my favourite campaigns) that I might be best to wait for it to recieve it's full polish before playing, but I am eager to do so.

If you're just missing one actor and it's a role I could fill, I'd gladly do it.  I have samples up in the VA forum and my credits include the GTC Duke and GTC Fortune in Blue Planet.

The download links for this are not working.  Can anyone link me to a working mirror?

Also any word on the voice acting for this?  This is my first time playing through this campaign and I wouldn't mind doing it with a 95% completed dialogue, MS Anna can do the rest.

Obviously there's been no word, otherwise you'd have seen it!

Well I posted about it because the download links are broken.  I guess I should've known nobody is ever supposed to enjoy it ever again because it's old.  I'll stop looking for these files then.

It's no wonder why whenever I show someone the retail FS2 and then tell them about how it's being upgraded they like the screens and vids I show them, get put off by the user banter on these forums.   Maybe I should've lurked more before I returned or sent anyone over here.

What pissed me off was you asking about voice acting when clearly nothing has been said about it for a year and a half.

Now, I have Warzone on my hard drive, but I'm not sure if it's 2.2 or 2.3.2.

You seriously got pissed off from that?  Someone said that it was 95% done so I assumed the files were up somewhere.  I guess I'll keep my mouth shut next time.

I have the original warzone that came with 3.6.10 installer, will just use that until something further is released to a DL site about this I guess.

Lets not start a flame war in this thread.  I can provide the answers you seek.  The voice acting of Warzone was completed.  I don't know exactly when it was completed.  The campaign needs to go through the final testing stage before it can be released.  The problem is that the FSCRP is currently having a large bout of inactivity.

I cannot say for certain when the voice acted version of the campaign will be released.  I'll upload the campaign to mediafire for you.  The link will be posted when the upload is complete.

I've finished uploading the campaign to mediafire.  It is the same version that the original download link would have given you.

Here is the link: http://www.mediafire.com/?248wvz1y947yu96 (http://www.mediafire.com/?248wvz1y947yu96)

Could someone with moderator privileges please add this link to the first post.

EDIT: To answer Cyborg 17's question, the campaign needs a thorough play through or two to ensure we didn't miss anything.  I know for a fact that there are some grammatical and spelling errors that still need to be fixed.  I also think there might be one bug still in there somewhere but I can't be sure.  That's everything that I can recall offhand.  There might be additional things that need to fixed or changed

Yeah, Cobra, that really wasn't an appropriate response.  There's nothing wrong with asking an innocent question about something that hasn't been updated in this long.

LOA, I'm sorry to hear that people you've sent over here have been turned off by what they saw.  We try to make it a point to have this be a good environment for newbies, so something obviously went wrong there.  Do you happen to know what areas of the forum they were reading?

I'll throw that link in the first post, Aurora.  If you need a hand with the final testing, I'd be willing to help; I'd really love to see this finally released myself. :)

Awesome.  I'll play through it a few times and be on the look out for those things.  If it really is 19 missions long, then it will probably take me about 2 days or so to play through it well enough.

EDIT: I can't extract the .7z for some reason.  It gets to a certain point and then quits on me.

The beta version I uploaded isn't the latest version.  In order for the testing conditions to be proper you would need the latest version.

I'm not sure why the 7zip file isn't working properly.   I tested it on my end and it unzipped fine.  The only thing I can suggest is to make sure you have the latest version of 7zip.

I've uploaded a version of the Warzone campaign compressed in the winzip format.  Let me know if you can open it.

It unziped and threw up a couple warnings.  I'll try to get through it anyway and tell you if I come up with any problems.

EDIT: Tried to set it on the launcher and the launcher crashed.  Alzip was telling me that a bunch of files were corrupted, and I guess it was a good idea to listen.   Does it work on your end before you zip them?

EDIT2:  Nevermind, Alzip was throwing a hissy fit.  Used another program and it seems to be fine.

  Ok.

I'm coming up with a bug in mission 5.  On easier mission difficulties, no further ships arrive because they are tied to the destruction of Mjolnir 2,and its destruction is preventable.  Also, looking at the FRED file, there are no events tied to it.  Hope this was fixed in later versions.

You're welcome.  It's quite an obvious mistake though.  Unless everyone testing was testing on insane, they probably came across it.  I'd love to be able to go through the most current version.  I've seen something like 3 grammatical mistakes(1 major, two minor), but I stopped looking for them when I realized that it wasn't the most recent version.

For those of you that haven't not noticed the highlight already, the FSCRP will be releasing a second beta of Warzone.  This beta contains a variety of fixes but most importantly is fully voice acted.  However, due to a miscommunication the highlight went up before we had the second beta ready for release.

We should have the second beta of Warzone out the door in a day or two.  Until that time, thank you for your patience.
