Hello. I recently tried and finished a small mod. I saved a copy of my original data files (tables, ships, weapons, etc.) but it was accidently deleted. My original files are gone now and I am stuck with the new ones like the "GTSD Paladin" and "Ultra Herc". Where do I go to download the data files that came with the game? Or do I need to reinstall?
Thanks.
(Sorry if this is newbie question)

you mean you deleted the data folder from your root FS2 directory?
If so, that folder contains virtually no information, just folders, all data is saved on the VP files that came with the retail game, if you still have the .vp files on the FS root directory then you are saved.
all you might need is the .cfg files that are stored on the data folder, but I'm not so sure about what they are for... maybe some multi validation file of some kind.

Mmm. Not sure what you mean by that. But the mod was for a campaign called "Return to Sol". It stated in the readme to copy the 'data' folder so you could have it after you were done with the mod. You then replace the existing files in that folder with his tables, ships, weapons, and so on. This particular mod I got from the owner's site, and it was not in a VP (such as FreeSpaceFreak's 'Crossing the Styx' campaign). The mod replaced Hercules with Ultra Hercs and some other things. If the files that were in folder 'Data' exist as VPs then how do I use them to get Hercules fighter back?

Oh okay. I think I get it now. The only thing the got over-ridden was the tables folder. If I can just get the original tables folder everything should work okay. After snooping around I noticed that nothing else got 'replaced'. I can delete those as needed, I only need the tables. Doesn't fix my problem, but I *am* one step closer now. Could anyone send me the original tables?

You can download VPView2.0 and search in the .vp files in your main FS2 folder. I think the tables are in one called root.vp (it's been ages since I saw the FS2 vp files).
Look in here to see the names of the .vp files among other things: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/fs2-technical.html

I don't know why, but I've had no success with VPView. Maja and go!

If it's all "gone to heck," you may just need to go to gog.com and download it for $5.99. If you downloaded it from there, you can download the app again if you need it, no problem.

Ah. That did it. Putting rootfs2.vp into the tables folder fixed it thank you.

Wut wut wut. This is completely unnecessary.
Just delete everything in all the folders in your /data directory and it'll revert to retail.

Okay. Let me just step in here and ask for a directory listing. Crazy88boss, no offense, but from your comments I can infer that you seem to have no real idea what you're doing. Please go here (http://www.spadixbd.com/freetools/jdirprint.htm), download that tool, and run it on your FS2 directory, then post the output here. That way, I or someone else can tell you what exactly is wrong here, and how to fix it.

He's okay, he's new to it. But these other people telling him to do stuff with VPView, them's just crazy!

Initially it sounded like it was HIS MOD (so he should know the process and not need to be guided from step 1-2-3 adn go straigth to 4).
However his mod is a mod of someone else's work and thus caused confusion about MOD DEVELOPMENT/Design.
Data folder is always Untouched (aside from possible multi data infor txt modification if needed) PERIOD.
Mod Data FOLDERS are the only folders to be created and touched....
When people say Data, it often gets confused with the legacy Retail DATA folder you never touch...
