There was an FS2 thread (and apparently there still is). Now let's take it back to retro FS1/FSPort.
Avenger/Banshee Dual Interceptor for me.
-
Prometheus all the way, even on a Hercules I would go Prom/Prom, if I needed 6 for some reason. I always found the banshee and other specialized weapons of limited use on a fighter like the Hercules with poor weapon placement. I'm probably going to be chewed out for this, though.
-
I prefer the Avenger to the Prometheus because of its speed (which makes it more accurate for me). Favorite weapon to me really depends on what the mission is. If I'm doing heavy intercept (hercules), I prefer an Avenger, or occasionally Prometheus when I know I'll need that extra bit of firepower more than the accuracy, in the 4 slot bank and a Flail on the bottom. That way right when my Phoenix V's or Interceptors are about to hit, I can nail them with the Flail so they don't evade them.
-
Avenger / Banshee for me, the Prometheus fires to slow for me
-
I /tend/ to use Prom/Banshee and Interceptor / Phoenix V most of the time... especially on higher difficulties.
-
I usually go all Avenger for the high damage and low power requirements. If I'm in a fighter I also take all Interceptors, although it's in FSPort where Interceptors are said to be much more accurate.
-
Avenger/Banshee where possible, with dual Proms if I'm in a Ulysses. I generally use only primaries when dogfighting, since FS1 fighter have such low capacities. I tend to use Hornets since they do lots of damage to hulls, like freighters and cruisers.
-
Avengers, possibly supported by Flails (absolutely great loadout for anti-fighter work in a 4+2 configuration... I wish those were still available in FS2).
I always found the Banshee abysmal. Overall firepower in standard FS1 weaponry is fairly equal, just split differently between shields and hull so there is nothing to justify the energy expenditure. In Silent Threat, 4 Avengers + 2 S-Breakers will outperform an all-Banshee loadout against shields and hull, at a quarter of the energy requirements. In the main game, I'll happily give up a little firepower in order to juggle fighters or simply use all Avengers.
Secondaries... I liked the Interceptor but then I only played the port.

Pffft. Real men use paired ML-16s. :p
-
Herc with W-Avenger and Interceptor and Phoenix-V

So do you like, collide your enemies to death? :p
-
Who doesn't?
-
I prefer Banshee/Avenger and Interceptor. I don't play the port much I usually just pull out my fs1 disks.
-

Indeed. I afterburner at them, setting my mic to external and scream "AAAALLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPHHHHHHHAAAAAA OOOOOONNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!" The Shivans **** themselves and run like hell.
-
Actually... given how little we know about Shivan biology, are we sure they can even **** themselves?
Any applicable 4-letter-verb really although the context heavily implies one meaning.

Valid tactic

:D
I've got to try that someday!!

Definateley. Doesn't work for the Lucy
-
Tch. They always sed that the wings from the Bastion were the ones who destroyed the Lucifer by destroying the 5 reactors. T'was a lie, a cover up because the real story was too heroic and HOT BLOODED for them to believe. Yes, they destroyed the 5 reactors, but it was by RAMMING THEM, SCREAMING FOR BLOOD OF SHIVANS!! And the subspace corridor collapsed because IT COULD NOT WITHSTAND SUCH MANLINESS AND AWESOMNESS!!
Seriously though, I stick with twin Prometheus and Hornets. I think the Interceptor is a horrible missile. Or I just have horrible usage of it.
-
It is pretty friggin' useless against anything smaller than a transport, at least in FS1; the Port's handling of it makes it actually track targets half worth a damn. Some might argue that that represents unfaithfulness to the original, but I'm happy to view it as making one of the core weapons of the game actually worth using again.
-
Damn straight. It got to the point I shunned the Interceptor totally; though even in the Port I pick the Hornet over the Interceptor.
-
If I'm in a Herc, I carry a bank each of Interceptors and Phoenix IV's. They're great for short range coup de grace.
-
Ursa bomber
Harbinger bombs
Head on collision
Excellent

In FS1, using dual Banshees in a Herc on lower difficulties is quite okay, but on higher difficulties, I'm better off mounting a Prometheus on the quad bank and using that only. Alternatively, the Avenger serves as a reasonably good substitute.
