Are you using the 3.6.10 release build? Or the latest 3.6.11?
-
That campaign requires a 3.6.11 build in order to work. If you try to play it with 3.6.10 it will fall over.
-
i tried to look for the 3.6.10 build but i been seeing alot of them i just dont know what to download send me a link so i can download thanks
-
Dude. You're from the States. You have been taught how to speak English, now please try.

Yeah just follow colecampbells friendly link.
3.6.11 is just a more recent version of the SCP code project (ie 3.6.10). And by more recent that means it's the .exe file.
Just download the latest .exe from teh Nightly builds board of the SCP forum and place it in your directory. And then, in your launcher, select the 3_6_11 exe as your executable when running Apocalypse Vega. Later, when you're playing different campaigns re-select the 3_6_10 exe

that link you sent didnt do any thing still came up as Error: sp-01.fs2(line 2408:

Did you select the build in the launcher using the 'browse' button after downloading it and placing it in your FS2 directory?
I reckon not.

also i went to download the link you sent and there was the 3-6-11 but they were mamed the same so where was the directions you guys are suppose to give to me to put in the game
-
Now this I think may be a problem with the campaign itself. Shiv?
-
so what did i do wrong or was it the campaign thats mest up. oh and do i get rid of those 3-6-11 downloads?
-
Now this I think may be a problem with the campaign itself. Shiv?
-
alright what the hell do i do now so i can play the game or do i have to wait for shiv
-
Patience.
This isn't best buy.
But yes, it looks like this campaign is the problem (until you hear otherwise), not something you've done.
Why don't you go on with playing another campaign whilst you wait for an answer?
-
Go play Blue Planet, Derelict, Transcend, Silent Threat: Reborn, and The Procyon Insurgency if you haven't already.
-
thanks hope you guys fix it and blue planet rocks
-
It is a problem with the campaign but this particular issue is only going to appear when running the debug builds. If you run the 3.6.11 build ending in _r instead of _d you'll be fine.
-
Ah, right, should've noticed that!
Looks like you picked the debug instead of release version of the build in the launcher. Fix that up and it should work okay.
-
so wait im confused what do i click to play vega which one exactley
wait i get but karajorma i did that and it still dont work it just says that it has stop working
-
Hrm. 3.6.11_whatever_r? That doesn't work?
-
yes sir im suppose to click browse and click 3-6-11...........r and also have apocalypse vega as my mod and hit run right? well did that and dont work.
-
What happens?
-
didnt work and says that freespace has stop working close program
-
Something's borked with the campaign, then.
-
if you can type up the steps i need to do in order to play the campaign
-
You should probably talk to whoever made it if the campaign is borked. (Shiv? was it?)
-
Step 1: wait for Shiv.
Step 2, performed in parallel: play another campaign.
-
how come others are saying oh the campaign is good and why are they not having any problems like im haveing with this sh**
-
Life sucks sometimes. Though, according to NGTM-1R, it wasn't that good.
I haven't played it myself as I haven't moved over to 3.6.11 yet.
-
well just for the people that make it so weird

Try posting in this thread:
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=64384.0 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=64384.0)
Shiv may not see this thread for days if ever. But he probably has email notification for his release thread.
But in terms of installation here's what is required as I understand it:
1. Install Freespace 2 (assume you've done this)
2. Download TAVega campaign from http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=64384.0 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=64384.0). Extract the zip file in your Freespace2 folder. This will create a new folder called TAVega-EN
3. Download the 3.6.10 mediavps core and effects from here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=65038.0 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=65038.0). Create a new directory in your Freespace 2 folder called "mediavps". Place the files in there. The other Mediavps are optional, but according to shiv core and effects are mandatory.
4. Download FSO 3.6.10 from here http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=64520.0 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=64520.0) and extract to your Freespace 2 folder (I'm not sure if the nightly builds include the launcher, though you already have the launcher anyway).
4. Download the 5.5e launcher from here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=64520.0 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=64520.0) Place it in Freespace 2 directory.
5. Download a 3.6.11 nightly build from this forum: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?board=173.0 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?board=173.0) Any for your appropriate system should do. Extract the files to your Freespace 2 directory.
6. Run the Launcher. Select TAVega as the mod. The mediavps are secondary and initiated in the mod.ini so you should not have them as a custom flag (ie don't have "-mod mediavps" in the command line). Select a 3_6_11_r or whatever (just not _d or debug) as the executable. Click run and hopefully it should work.
As to the campaign. It's fun and I enjoyed it. People's opinions will vary.

whats the code that was with the link to the 3-6-11 was i suppose to do something with that?
-
AA, TA:Vega needs 3.6.11. I don't think you need 3.6.10 final for 3.6.11.
Unless the point was to link the 5.5e launcher, in which case a more direct link would be more clear.

Oh can you download the launcher separately? Ok didn't know that.

I dunno I just ignore that. I think it's more for the interest of the coders.
-
well i followed those steps and still dont work the same exact thing pop up so thanks for those steps tho

Sounds like a similar issue we were having with 3.6.11 r builds with WiH. Does Freespace load up ok, and only crash when you try to start the campaign? Or does it crash immediately when you try to start up Freespace 2?
-
when i load up the campaign it dont work freespace 2 is fine
-
when i load up the campaign it dont work freespace 2 is fine
No. What he's asking is:
-does the program crash when you try to Launch it?
OR
-does the program work fine until you try to play the campaign? (ie it goes to the menu, you select the campaign, you click "continue" to start a mission and then it crashes?????).

Try this 3_6_11 build from July 13th: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=64378.0 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=64378.0)
It's what I used, and I know it works for me.
Maybe there's something screwy with the more recent builds??
-
i found the problem its the 3-6-11 the sept 4th one its no good i put in the july 13 one and it worked yaa boi

Cool beans.
Enjoy the campaign.
-
Hrm...it means that something changed in the later versions of 3.6.11 that breaks compatibility.
Still would probably be a good idea to tell Shiv.
Unless the later 3.6.11's are just broken.
-
One possibility:
safe_strings was committed fully on 31/07/2009 (there were a few days after the 5492 commit where we fixed bugs).
Depending on how it was built, safe_strings will usually just crash without a warning in Release builds (it's turns out to be quite difficult to catch the assertions raised from the MS CRT - I only had a brief look at how to do that)
In debug builds you get all kinds of spew about over run buffers if that's the cause.
There's also a fix for a CTD which can occur from a call from the PDB_DEBUGGING code which was committed 2/09/2009 in 5557 for clean_filename which could be buggy (hey, no more mangled symbols!)
Beyond those two, we probably need enough info to actually get this to occur locally so that we can track down what exactly is going wrong.
-
I'm preparing a fix for that. Should be ready soon. In addition, all grammar stuff will be fixed,.
