Just to continue this deja-vu, certain AM stations are very popular here. :p

Sports radio broadcasts tend to be in AM.

Seriously, this.  I'm not even talking about Limbaugh and his idiotic ilk.  You guys are telling me that the city you live near doesn't have some sort of news radio station with frequent traffic updates that just about everyone relies on when driving to work, or a sports talk station with popular local personalities, or broadcasts of local baseball/football/hockey/basketball/what-have-you games, or anything along those lines?  Because I'd have to wonder just how far out in the sticks you were living if that's the case. :p

It probably does, however there's no reason to listen to AM bands here. FM has enough, more than enough, of what you need, at better quality. (And being a Navy town, whenever a Burke or Tico leaves or enters port, most AM is blanked out anyways.)

I never realized how many AM stations there were until a few days ago. There were DOZENS, even in a small city of 350000.

Actually, FM around here doesn't have any of what I mentioned, other than Eagles football games.  Our FM dial is pretty much packed with your standard music stations.
