by me.

Thats a damn nice fighter thingy
-
I don't see any gun mounts, unless I'm just missing them
-
the gun mounts are the grey things under the two lines in the front.
-
*squints*
Oh....ok
-
Mmmm... looks pretty high-poly... how many? :p
And as a fightery thingy, I'd give it a
Just one thing though I don't like the squarish thing on right behind the cockpit - it looks a bit strange and out of place.
-
what squarish thingy?
-
oh, and 19,974 polys
-
Why is the cockpit transparent?
-
And it looks like it is missing the pilot seat and the controll panel.
By the way, not bad.
-
i haven't done the interior yet.
thanx all

The extrusion thing on top of the rectangular piece behind the cockpit - personally I'd like it sleeker but I think it's personal inclination and how you look at it so... :p
Oh and lots o' polys :D ( Would Freespace kill me if I tried to jam it in there? :p  )

*points to every FS screenshot ever made showing one or more fighters* :D

*cough* (sorry Pneuomonia recovery) I think he's reffering to real-world fighters *cough* (I hate pneuomia)

Looks pretty cool; I like the design idea. The blue square thing in the back does look a bit funny though. ;)

Oh...in that case, it does make a lot of sense to have transparent cockpits... :o
-
guys... At first sight I could tell it wasn't for FS2... isn't it obvious?

Yes it is obvious, even to me and i have absolutly no modeling experience, so if i can see it others should see it also;)
Btw Nice fighter Carl

Tinted (ie. the ones which are completely black on the outside) canopies are cooler. Since you don't have to render the pilot inside. ;)

Not in a space fighter.
the sun! the sun!
-
Looking good!
(transparent cockpits still look cooler, you just need to model the inside)
-
Looks great!
Can we get a few more pics? ;)
-
sweeeet.

yeah, that makes sense. i think i'll tint the cockpit, but i'll still model the inside.

Yeah it is - exactly why I asked ;)

*Looks at fightery thingy*
*Looks at Carl's title*
*Looks back at fightery thingy*
Whoa, that is a nice fightery thingy, especially for a render artist! Awesome! And even though it isn't designed for FS, I just wish I could fly it...:yes:

This is why we need a super-high poly space sim - with relatively little ships of course (maybe like say  one) or maybe not :p
-
the reason for low poly model ships isn't because of space, it's because the computer can't render that many polygons and it'll slow your computer down really slow.
-
hehehe...get a geforce 4, the one that can render about one trillion pollys per second?
-
You'd still have a limit, and not much higher one at that...

Well exactly - less ships - less polys rendered. So we fly a ship through empty environments to cut down on polys rendered. Not very fun but... :p

Plus you have to allocate memory space to hold the actual point co-ordinates, etc. FS2s' shars o' death are probably a malloc / calloc (or similar) related problem, where the polygon data space overruns it's allocated storage area, and ends up using co-ordinates based on data allocated by another program.
...AFAIK.

What about comps that are 1.80 and above?
