The content of this package is severely out of date. Please use either Turey's installer, or do a manual install.
This installation method involves the usage of an offline installer. You'll have to download the entire installer (which is split into really many smaller pieces) and then use it to install FSO over your current FS2 installation. Alternative methods include:
- Turley's Turney's Turrey's Turkey's Trey's Turey's FreeSpace Open Installer (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=61606.0)
- hip63's FreeSpace Open SCP 3.6.10 Final Off-Line Installer (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=64634.0)
- Manual installation (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=47640.0)
- Manual installation on Linux / Mac OS X (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=60842.0)
Ok, has been a lot more time i expected, i have some personal dificulties not giving me enoght time to finish this.
As i say previusly, this will be the last version of my update pack, this inluides some fixes for the 2.0 version as well the new VPs... All the download files are checked ok, so there must be not any other CRC problem.
The only requeriment is a full Freespace 2 1.2 installation. The update pack is that, an update, it does not incluide any retail file.
Pack v2.2, includes:

I have just gotten FS2 from GOG.Com, The Open installer, the FS_CP_2.0 Setup and I went to the Megaupload link for the 27 parts you are mentioning here and there are several parts missing, parts 1,3,5,6,8,12,12,14,17,19,24 and 27. I kinda went whole hog on this and I have been pouring over the forums for all the info I can find (and I've only completed the first few Training Missions). Mostly I was interested to play the TC's for the game but I decided to get everything and that's how I found this. You might want to check it yourself.
<edit> oops, duh there's a second page

Other valid options for installation include hip63's DVD thingamadoodle (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=64634.0) and manual installation (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=47640.0).

Hi
I downloaded your entire installer and tried running it, whenever I did that everything worked fine until it suddenly gave me an error: Access to C:\Games\Freespace2\FS2NetGV.exe was denied. I tried it many times and it always gives me the same error. I would go ahead and use one of the other methods for installing, but I already spent most of my monthly download quota on this  I would really appreciate a little help.
On another note, I think you are doing a great job! I am only 18 now i.e I didn't even know what a computer really was when FS2 was originally released and yet here it is being improved and enhanced with numerous mods. I think you guys are awesome!
thanks,
mad

:welcome:
I'm guessing you're running Vista. You should upgrade to XP, or disable UAC while the installer is running.
-
As a general rule with Vista, (with few exceptions - FS/FS2/FSO shouldn't be one of them) any program you install should be installed to the Program files. You probably know this regardless, but that just covers up a few potential problems.
I also assume you've gotten FSO to run. The problem I precieve you have is with the multiplayer app. Apparently, this program resembles a virus/malware to some applications, possibly Windows itself. If that's the case, someone with multi experience can probably help.
Lastly, I can't stress strongly enough how wise it is to learn to do a manual istallation. If you're using a GOG download of FS2, a manual install is a snap. Should you ever need to do a fresh install, please consider learning how to do a manual installation. It will make your life so much easier...

:wtf: Uh, I've heard the exact opposite regarding FSO repeatedly. Since Vista is a total ***** when it comes down to protecting the \Program files\ directory. Which is why it is often recommended that FSO is installed to C:\games\freespace2\ or something like that.
-
Let's just say that FS2 will run without a hitch in C:\Program Files\ under optimal conditions, but installing mods or making mods yourself is far more comfortable when it is installed somewhere else.
-
Thanks everyone!
I will definitely try these things. Also, I think I will just do the manual install- sooner or later
Have a great new years!
Just to point something out though, I'm using windows 7!
-
And? In that particular point, Vista and 7 are absolutely identical.
-
Hey, is this identical to the Turey installer in terms of content?
Unfortunately my net connection blows atm, so I can't download large files (connection goes off momentarily every 20 minutes or so), so this is a good option for me.
-
Turey's installer is great for beginners, but you're much safer with a manual install. The great thing about the installer is that it will introduce you to some new content you might not otherwise be aware of. For a new member of the Fellowship of FreeSpace, this is good.
However, there's an even better way to learn of new content. Go here:
http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Narwhal%27s_Campaign_List
If you're looking for new campaigns to play, here's the place to go. Bear in ming you might need FS Port, though...
If you go with manual installation, you should look to find these items first: The Launcher (5.5e is the latest if I remember correctly), the executables (get the official 3.6.10 releases... get both the Inferno and standard builds, as well as the debug builds for each. It's just good practice), FRED2_open (regular and Inferno), the .ogg cutscene pack, and the MediaVPs. Then, look into getting FS Port and its associated assets.

Hey, is this identical to the Turey installer in terms of content?
Not quite. You can see what Turey's Installer downloads from the Installer site (http://www.fsoinstaller.com/). Turey's Installer is probably more up to date in terms of builds and the MediaVPs, due to its online nature. And with Turey's Installer, you should be able to select the components that you want to download, if for example you don't want to download all the user-made campaigns/mods. With this pack, you'll have to download the whole thing before you can use it.
Personally, I'd also recommend manual installation. It's easy, you can choose what to download and you know exactly what you're getting. And the installation instructions at the support board are always up to date, meaning you'll get the latest recommended components if you follow the instructions.

Downloading now, hope I can remember how to install stuff on this computer LOL
Had a hellofa scare last week had to reinstall Vista again since XP totally died from old age, and I thought I lost FS, turns out I had it backed up :)
Got the games FS1 and 2 on disk, but I almost lost all the mods and updates
Glad as everything I saw this thread again ( whew)
-
I wouldn't bother with this. A new version of the engine and a new version of the mediavps will be out shortly (as in, in a few days at most), so you'd be getting a lot of stuff that is outdated.
Not to mention that some of the mods included in this (Like, for example, Blue Planet) have been updated as well.
Better use Turey's installer.

Uh, where and when, I know I never play online but offline is GREAT, I'd love to have the latest and greatest of this game as I have said many times before in many forums ( been kicked out for it too) Freespace in ANY form is STILL the best game available to play, graphics rule eh computer world, an dteh AI is way better than anything intel can ever think of putting in a commercial
-
Unstickied due to outdatedness. Can someone make an update?
-
yes yes you most make an update
plz don't hurt me
