Ok for those of you who remember a while back I posted a demo for a campaign entitled A New Dawn. I'm still working on that campaign. However I lost the sheets that had both storylines (70+ missions) planned out. So I started fooling around with another idea. Empires. Basically the GTVA is gone and I'm going to focus on the various Terran factions that sprang up in the aftermath. You stat as a pilot in a small faction in an undecided system. It will mainly focus on small scale fights, I'm not planning on including anything bigger than a corvette but I may throw a destroyer or two in there. Still planning the ships I'm going to use so no idea when I'll get a demo out there. If anyone has any suggestions for ships that would fit in a cheaper, lower scale fleet, think the GTVA in the beginning of Derelict, please let me know.

It would almost be cool to see "FS1 junker fleets"... It typically takes a long time to recycle old warships. Fighters go much faster to the recycling mill, but if there's no GTVA, there's been a serious problem. Thus we can conclude that... if this isn't too far post-Capella, a good deal of the technology will have probably been relatively stagnant in development.
Recall that bombers like the Athena got put into storage during Reconstruction. If the GTVA storage depots remained relatively intact during the Second Incursion, you might succeed in bringing back the old birds in a credible way (unlike "Twilight," one of the poorer campaigns I've ever played and its use of the Apollo) with storytelling. Regardless of the date, due to the nature of the environment you're suggesting, this campaign might really succeed with pirates. And if you've got a mash of really old warships and fighters in there, you could make for a sort of dark, "primitive" environment which would definately make for a distinctive campaign. Heck, throw a random militia/pirate wing of GTF Angels in there... you'd never expect it.

you also have room for BP style uglies (yes i read starwars) as well as modified designs e.g. what would happen if you put a Herc II reactor in a Herc I or remounted the Ursa triple primary bank under its nose

I'm thinking of something like NTF fleets. I also downloaded the Athena and the Apollo. I tried the Valkyrie but the cockpit doesn't load right so I deleted it. I didn't think about the uglies. That's a good idea.

WHAT?!?!? The Valkyrie is a MUST. Not just from a gameplay POV (Valk kicks ass IMO), but also you have to consider that they still formed all but a few of the interceptor squadrons during the second shivan incursion. The Perseus is still an expiremental (or something) fighter at the end of FS2, don't forget.

Is there a Valkyrie out there with a cockpit? The on I downloaded from FSMods is missing maps or something because there's just a big hole where the cockpit should be.

There is a Valkyrie with a cockpit. You've likely not done your installation properly; it requires maps from the mediavps.

That one? Which maps does it need?
-
Just get the FSPort MediaVPs and use that one.
-
Yalp. Not only do you get to have a purty FSport, but you can rip the models out to your heart's content!
I recommend Maja Express for this. Go to FS mods and look in the modding tools... or a similar place. Easy.
The Athena... If I'm not mistaken, the current FSport Athena is derived from TrashMan's "Athena Mk. II." Thus it has some errors such as an erroneous (for the normal Athena it's supposed to stand for in FSport) weapons mount on the bottom of the hull and no small thruster in the very back. Perhaps this will be fixed by the time a new FSport is released.

That's still not fixed? :doubt:

Pretty sure the latest FSport VP pack has it. I think the tables are correct... so no third secondary bank... but, as I said before, (a.) no tail thruster and (b.) some un-accounted for geometry.
-
I need the Valkyrie not the Athena. The Athena I downloaded off of FSMods seems to be working fine.
*EDIT* Valkyrie is in.
-
If by unaccounted for geometry you mean things like the modified top gun bank, blame trashman.
-
The top bank looks fine. It's the gunmounts beneath the fuselage that are the problem. And don't blame TrashMan: I think it was Galemp who re-textured it and put it in FSpost. And because it's Galemp, I would certainly not blame him. He'll fix the problem himself eventually, I'm sure.
Speaking of the actual campaign, is there any more to the plot you'd be willing to share with us, basnyy213?

Does he know about it?

As I plan it out I'll share what I've got. So far: you are a pilot in the AAU (Altair-Aldebaran Union) during a routine patrol mission you encounter an abandoned SOC base. The GTVA is gone, the SOC is still active and trying to maintain peace in Terran space. There are about 6 other factions in the game plus the Vasudans, don't expect any faction specific fighters at this point. I'm bringing back old FS1 ships and also focusing more on FS1 ships. Destroyers won't be a very common sight. Most strike groups are led by corvettes but besides that they are mainly FS1 cruisers (Leviathan and Fenris). I've downloaded a few other ships I thought might fit.
-
FS1 stuff is fun... but keep in mind it's been a looong time since the Great War. Most FS1-era ships are still seen in FS2, but the one that aren't should be pretty rare unless you've got a really good explanation for it. Always keep in mind the attrition of old ships in respect to time, the NTF, and of course, Shivans. :D
-
That's the thing though. If the GTVA is anything like modern day militaries, most of those old ships would be put into storage for quite some time. Although 32 years is excessive in modern day, the GTVA still utilize older designs so fighter tech can't have changed all that much.
