The winner gets a free road trip to Britain to visit Thunder. :shaking:
-
I detect an alarming gravitas shortfall.
-
i vote option 3, what you on about?
-
I don't get it
-
Man, look at all the newbies.
I should get back to checking these forums one of these days.
-
Definately time for another road trip.
-
and change Fan-fiction and Art back to Hard Light Art. kthxbye.
-
Snuffleupagus?
Naw, this is an ok name
-
Definately time for another road trip.
Indeed.
-
Yes! And move it back to the top! And bring back join dates!
-
It was a sad sad day when the Hard Light forum was no longer at the top of the list.
It's like HLP went all corporate. :p
-
Yeah, no. Come on, what do you think this will achieve? Bring back "Days of glory" that never existed? Seriously, "Off-Topic Discussion" is a much, much better name for this section, whether you like it or not. Oh, and I don't see why the opinion of people who are not really part of the HLP community anymore should matter in the slightest.
-
Man what. :blah:
Talk about a no fun zone.
-
Bloody hell! What rock did you two crawl out from under. :p
-
Nice sig. XD
-
Holy ****, oldbie invasion. :D
-
oh god, i hope an0n doesn't come back too
-
oh god, i hope an0n doesn't come back too
Nah, we banned him. For real this time*.
* For real this time.
Man what. :blah:
Talk about a no fun zone.
I know, really. Hard Light at the top was fine when it was actually fun, but now it's just devolved into rants and political threads. I mean, what are the chances of a thread like this (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=4125.0) happening nowadays?
-
Hoo man, that brings back memories.
Bloody hell! What rock did you two crawl out from under. :p
Oh, y'know. Thought I'd swing by.
-
That thread was awesome. I wish I'd been registered to join in on the Culture references.
-
Couldn't read it. All those admin badges made me too paranoid. Felt like I needed to hide the beer and run. :nervous:

You might want to finish up your campaign while you're at it. :p

Yes, this section has changed a lot since those days. The new title and placement merely reflect that.
Couldn't read it. All those admin badges made me too paranoid. Felt like I needed to hide the beer and run.
You could read this (http://web.archive.org/web/20010627065616/http://vbb.volition-inc.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/014368.html) instead. No admin badges there. :D

Snuffleupagus.
EDIT: ALL HAIL THE SNUFFLEUPAGUS!

Been a long time since I've seen those hauled out

Yea. I hopped over to the FRED forum while I was there. Seemed like half the posts were me breaking things back then too. :D
-

You'll find in the old days the admins were the ones who were most likely to be doing drunken antics :p
-
no fun zone.
yeah... :sigh:
-
Wow! Blasts from the past!
-
Just bring back HLP 2.0
HLP 2.0 = Nuclear1 eternally happy
-
Posting in epic thread.
(HLP has kinda degraded a lot huh)
-
I'd say it's changed, rather than degraded, not always changed to people's tastes, but, hey, the old style of HLP wasn't entirely to everyone's tastes either, can't please everyone.
-
woah anon was banned? that's news to me. what'd he do?
-
He's a button pusher, and there's a lot of buttons on the Forum ;) It was amusing, but also disruptive ;)
-
*snip*
Relax, man. Why so serious?
...
-needs Joker pic-
-
Oh, it's just that just as this iteration of Hard-Light is not what they joined back in the day, the change they're proposing is not the Hard-Light I joined.
-
I seriously doubt that they are actually proposing a total revamp of HLP back. I think this is more like a thread for fun, and meant to poke at the older members and tell them they're back.
-
Well then, why didn't they choose a less flamebaity way of saying that?
-
This place has lost a lot of its charm :sigh:
-
I gotta say, that's usually what older members of communities think, no matter the community.
Don't be a downer, man!
-
naa i have to agree with him. this place, while it still holds a warm place in my heart, is definately not what it used to be :(
and i don't like change :(
-
I think they're right. This section and its user base has changed a lot over the years, and mostly for the worse. I don't come in here much at all anymore except for the occasional computer thread.
-
I think GD is less active/interesting than it used to be, not so sure that's neccesarily a symbol of the Forum getting worse though, there's a lot that gets done in the Freespace dedicated forums, which is, in truth, the focus of Hard Light Production.
If you're a big fan of the GD area, then the Forum has gone downhill, but if you're here for the Campaigns/Upgrade etc, then I think matters have actually improved.
-
Many of you are complaining this board (GenDis) is not what it used to be, but you still have to realize that the posters are what makes the board. Name change and it's position in board index doesn't change that. Instead of complaining, what about doing something about it and post interesting topics?
-
Well then, why didn't they choose a less flamebaity way of saying that?
Because this wasn't "flamebait" in the least? :p
-

Agree, it's up to the people posting how good a forum is.
-

This is certainly true. I think we have had more campaigns released in the last two years than all of the previous years combined.

I have no problem with the new name and position (or the post count rules, for that matter). Those things were, after all, brought on by the changes in the user base, and are appropriate given the state of the place these days.

The winner gets a free road trip to Britain to visit Thunder. :shaking:
Whereabouts in "Britain" is Thunder? ;)
-
Everyone who says HLP has downgraded has somehow failed to realize that it is one of the longest surviving forums that still manages to hold some semblence of intelligent conversations. If you look at any other forum that's over a decade old with over 7000 members, it will either be 1. dead or 2. reduced to immature flaming and spamming amongst a forum population that has no idea what the forum's original purpose was, and most of them won't be above the age of 16.
So while all the old members here are complaining about how HLP is now a flamefest for n00bz, in reality it's doing a helluva lot better then most everything else, who simply can't function anymore, at all.
-
If anything noobs here are absolute scholars compared to places like newgrounds.com or counterstrike related ones.
/me praises HLP TNG.
-
Oh, it's just that just as this iteration of Hard-Light is not what they joined back in the day, the change they're proposing is not the Hard-Light I joined.
To be more correct, created. ;)
People really are getting worked up over a bit of harmless fun. Where's the love guys. :(

Does it really matter? We keep smashing around until we find him and his new elfy name!

You weren't here during the peak of the forums in 02-04. You can't understand what a special place this place was during those years. You had to be here. Shrike, Tiara, Maeglamor, Zylonbane, an0n and Stryke 9 at their flaming peak, first rate debaters like Mikhael and Kellan, Venom, Thunder being hilarious in his trying to get the forumites to respect his authority, etc.
Back then, you could actually talk about your personal problems and get a sympathetic and intelligent response, instead of say, "stick it in her pooper" (Copyright held by Nuclear1, all rights reserved). Remember when Shadowolf's fiance almost died from a heart problem? Remember when Setekh's mother died? Forumites actually cared about each other. Or they hated each other in a way that was fun to watch *cough* vadar_1 *cough*.
So yeah, this place is still ok, but it doesn't touch HLP in it's glory days. You had to be there.
BTW, it's two in the afternoon and I still haven't gotten a happy 21 by anyone besides my girlfriend so far, not even from my friends, or the birthday message guy here. I feel so loved.

You left us for Spacebattles. SPACEBATTLES.
-
Don't be a downer, man!
I don't mean to be. HLP has a lot of history and it's very impressive that after all of these years it's still going strong and filled with people struggling daily to make a wonderful game even better.
I just remember a time when many of the posters here wouldn't flame you over nothing. I mean I won't say I haven't deserved a flaming or two over the 6 years I've been here because I definitely have deserved and it made me a better person. But it was fun, people were tolerant, and I just miss those days. In-fact it's because of the nostalgia of this place and it's old posters (some of which still around and even the Mods and Admins... Flipside, Kara, Goob, Galemp, UT, Bobb, many many more) It's because of those memories that I come back over and over. :)
No offense to the majority of posters here I didn't mean to offend anyone.
-

Happy Birthday
-
You left us for Spacebattles. SPACEBATTLES.
There's an eminently solid reason for that. I'm pretty active in the SD (multi-person writing games) forum, so it's where I gravitated towards. We had nodewars here back in ye olde dayes, but the whole writing aspect never picked up really.
And man you're only 21? I feel old now. :<
-
If it makes you feel any better, I'm 37 on Thursday :(
Oh, and Happy Birthday Mr. Vega :)
-
Shrikey-poo!! :D
I still have Iain M. Banks' books that I need to read - all because of you and Styxx. :p
-
You . . . still haven't read them? It's been like five years!
-
KILL HIM WITH [GRID]FIRE
-
Kudos to the TNT reference up top :p
-
no fun zone.
yeah... :sigh:
I blame the lock-happy mods ;).
Seriously, You actually told us to have a point for the threads last time we posted a completely random one. And then you locked it.
-
We need moar sex.

I dunno if you're blaming me, because if so that was clearly a different Shrike.
We need moar sex.
See, this is a good idea. Gold star!
-
Oh god, it's the Postadmin. :eek2:
/me has snowballed voted.
Man, look at all the newbies.
Hey, damn you (although it's half-true, actually). :p
But, seriously speaking, the new slogan isn't very good. "Bringing Modders Together" is still relevant even with all the slapstick around here, so leave it as it is.
And silver doesn't fit the HLP colour scheme of Shivan maroon.
-
I think "We Know Drama" was only put there as a temporary joke, and it'll eventually be changed back. :)
-
it is back.
i think it is an appropriate time for

Hell yeah. I spent a ton of work* hours on that thing... :hopping:
(*) Read: Actual job hours that I had nothing to do and thus devoted to working on HLP.
-
Oh, and who around here is old enough to actually remember Steak's and Thunder's "***" posts on the VBB?
Also, who saw the Red Faction Guerilla dev diaries and the BIG (really, huge) "FS3 - Release Date (blurred)" text on the whiteboards? Damned trolls. :p
-
Saw it.
Remember the VBB posts too.
-
that was a nice summer.
-
The VBB was great. SW forum was a ride.
-
I wish I had been around in those days. :(
-
I wonder what so many of those people are doing. Lots of friends are missing now.
-

Do you still have it?

Yep. Don't know if it's the version with all the forum integration and the latest bug fixes, though.
-
Well, dump it in the admin forum and let's take a look at it. :)
-

Spent plenty of time reading that stuff at work too but only after the FRED, support, and squadwar forums. Never been a big general discussion person.
-
I think "We Know Drama" was only put there as a temporary joke, and it'll eventually be changed back. :)
You could have saved it for April 1, 2010, you know. ;)
-
Wasn't me though.
-
In that case, you could convey that message to the admin who did it. :p
-
Yea if Goob had did it it would have been We Luv Phoenixes. :P
-
Or a big fat 162, perhaps.
-
Hello old people.
And yes, bring back Hard Light!
-
It's already back, BW. You're late. :p
-
No, the name.
-
Oh, you mean "Hard Light" instead of "Hard Light Productions"?
-
He means the point of this entire thread.....
-
"General Discussion" was originally called, simply, "Hard Light". "Fan Fiction and Art" was originally called "Hard Light Art".
-

In that case, I've missed the point once again. :nervous:
I thought Shrike was referring to that logo job last week.
-
Ah, no. That happened after this thread was started, but only a short time after.
-
Ah, crap. I voted in the wrong entry then. :p
No matter, it's just a little poll.
-
"General Discussion" was originally called, simply, "Hard Light". "Fan Fiction and Art" was originally called "Hard Light Art".
Wait a minute. I voted for the wrong option (I voted yes).
If General Discussion is renamed Hard Light, that would mean that the General Discussion forum is THE center of the site...
I do not need to explain why that could just be a bad thing.

Do you really think all the people who spend time working on other projects in other forums are gonna run to GD because of a name change?
-
You mean people like Tolwyn? ;)
-
I don't post as much as I did back then. I was quite the idiot back in the day. Oh and doods what happened to the  smiley?
-
Hey Falcon
-
My only real complaint is after two or so years, I still hate the main webpage. I want the old one back. :sigh:
