Title: So I'm Recruiting And Crap
Post by: NGTM-1R on September 26, 2009, 09:05:26 pm
Prior to actually committing to building a mod, I thought I'd see if I can get any help with it first. :P This is going to be based around the stuff from my "Stories From Sol" topic in Fanfiction And Art, so go read that if you're curious.

If you just model spaceships, I'm not going to have a use for you I fear. Feature creep in modeling is, from my observations, the great enemy, so we're not going to screw with that.

Weapons effect folks, we probably have a job for you.

Anybody else, whether you FRED or just have a good dose of sanity to bring to discussions of story and mission design, sign up here. I'll pester Matt/Goober/Hunter for hosting depending on response and ultimately need.

Oh hai.

Since you're helping me out with testing I'll help you out with whatever. Weapons effects I can...kinda do. FREDding...I can kinda do that too (though really, I don't have much time for that at the moment). Sanity? I'm not so sure about.

You have all the model assets you need already though? That's impressive.

I can't do anything from the creation side of things, but I can tell you whether or not a particular mission has enough annoying quirks to make my blood pressure skyrocket. :p

Same.  I have no creation skills whatsoever, but I can definitely beta-test and provide input.

Your stories in the fan fiction section are intriguing but I don't want to sign up for something when its doubtful I'm going to deliver upon it (I know myself too well). That being said, best of luck sounds you're thinking things out and it could be fun to play.

In a way.

Having deduced that main Cause of Death of campaigns is in their models, I've decided only off-the-shelf stuff is going to be used.

I'd be glad to hop on with story ideas.  Not much useful outside of that though.

I can help with story, all kinds of tables and some kinds of textures.
Also, I can modify effect graphics, but not create them from scrath.

Not only am I good with plot and storyline concepts, but I'm also a very adept writer. I'll throw my weight behind penning the dialogue behind whichever missions you need, from the campaign briefings to the post-mission debriefings and everything in between.

What about gameplay and storyline?

Having worked with FT, I can vouch that he's a good writer, but are you sure you're a good fit for NGTM-1R's style, FT?

This probably going to be a Clancy-esque military campaign with a strong emphasis on knowledge of the modern battlespace.

I won't be able to find out which genre of campaign has the niche best suited for me unless I try them all. Besides, I need to get back to writing. It's been a while since I've made any fresh material and I'm going to start having more time for that soon. I figure why not try making myself useful while I'm at it?

Thanks for the heads-up though, Bats. I'm sure I'll be able to adapt.

Well, you and eliex can go ahead and start FREDding the existing project with the retail ships, if you're worried about getting held up on that. That's probably the way to do it.

Can take it up on PM.

What about gameplay and storyline?

That's only partially hammered out. One of the points of getting together people is to finish doing so. (For that matter, simply knowing that we're only going to use off-the-shelf models doesn't mean I've selected all of them, I'm just not getting suckered into the trap of building new ones.)

Yes and no. I'm actually trying to avoid that impression for this project, it will probably slip in anyways of course, but otherwise I'd be doing it all myself. :P

So I got to Hunter. Get yourself registered on Sectorgame if you're coming and I'll let you know when everything's in place.

A commendable course of action. Makes one's life so much easier, and also because there's plenty of released assets out there that don't get much campaign love.
