Just a little survey I'm doing for a project of mine. You can remain anonymous, but you can post about what you torrent if you want.
Thanks for voting. :)
Poll closes in a month.
-
The question is poorly phrased. No to the way it's phrased, because of the "websites" bit. Yes otherwise.
Note to would-be idiots: torrents are not illegal, in and of themselves, and they never should be.

:sigh:

This thread will be locked in spite of the fact that it is not violating any forum rules because that's just how the Internet rolls nowadays.
Fixed. :nervous:

Where is the "I don't use torrents option?" :(
(was never really worth the effort)
-
...you can post about what you torrent if you want.
You do know that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is watching this thread as I post this, right?
-
Animes (Fansubs) due to unavailability in Germany are the only things I torrent. Not like anyone can tell me they are losing money because of me if I can't buy it.
That might change as soon as my Japanese is sufficient to watch those things unsubbed.
-
Regarding legality many companies nowadays like to put stuff on P2P.
Blizzard is one of those, I recall, although they have their very own client. Linux distributions also like to spread through P2P.
That said, and taking redsniper's words, I also do "download (of) copyrighted materials for which I am not legally licensed". And I'd call anyone a liar if they said otherwise about themselves at any point in time.
-
Don’t use torrents as I have never had a need for them.
I think in the public eye, the word ‘torrent’ has become synonymous with illegal file sharing and distribution of movies and songs.
-
I'm not a major user, it's useful for the TBP DVD for instance, but there are too many dodgy seeders out there for me to use them as much as i'd like. Mainly because my new method of connection fails to utilise them.
SONY PROXY FTL!

Don't give me reason to and it won't be......

Wow, there's lots of people in here with a persecution complex...

Bittorrent has helped me (a Dutchie) keeping up with Battlestar Galactica.
-
I torrent a lot of anime and occasionally a program I need for modding. Full games only if I want to try it before I buy. (yes, I buy my games :P )

also this

Same here.
-
I often use it to download movies and TV series that I otherwise wouldn't be able to see (stuff that I can't find on YouKu, which is a problem rarely encountered). I don't have a working DVD player of any kind (computer DVD player only plays CDs), and even if I did some of that stuff like MST3K are impossible to find, which only leaves ordering it from other countries which won't work because of ****ty region coding.
-
I torrent all kinds of stuff... games mostly.
-
I would appreciate if people would stop admitting their illegal activities considering this community is about a game that is still on sale in GoG, and HLP may even have some sort of affiliation with them in the future. Source code of said game was also provided to us in good will by game developer company. In that light is doesn't really speak for us if community members openly admit of pirating games or other software, as commonplace as that may be. While this topic is about discussing torrents, it doesn't mean that you have to tell specifics about what you're torrenting, especially if illegal.
That is all, carry on. (And don't forget there is edit button)
-
Never admitted anything illegal... but whatever, wasn't just directed at me. :P
Out of curiosity, what do most people torrent legally?
-
I'm sure games are near the top of the pirate chain. The Windows OS is probably somewhere up there as well.
-
I hurl a torrent of verbal abuse at the autmotively challenged. Especially those incapable of navigating rotaries(round abouts for the Brits) and those I get stuck behind on an on ramp who are unable to merge with highway traffic at a reasonable speed. :P
-
I don't have much interest in games, movies, or music.
I would torrent more illegal stuff if I weren't such a noob and could locate books for share. :P
-
I use Bittorrent websites for the acquisition of copyrighted materials.
-
I, uh, didn't ask for anyone to admit to doing illegal activities (though I didn't tell you not to, either). :doubt:
-
And there's another moral conundrum. I use Bittorrent to acquire copies o games that I already own, i.e. DRM free/pre-cracked versions. I don't believe that this is wrong, I just refuse to put up with bull**** copy-protection.
-
Hmmm, this is toeing the line (no-one in particular) but i reckon as long as whatever you do in line with the EULA then it's fine.
I mostly just burn my own games to my HD using Alcahol. That's good.

Why would you Torrent books?
http://www.gutenberg.org (Link Fixed)
-
Because I like to read on my computer where I can blow up font sizes and avoid wearing my glasses.
I don't understand the meaning of your link.
-
It's a domain squatter, the original site is gone.
-
Torrents helped me get the back episodes of BSG I missed.
-
I don't understand the meaning of your link.
He misspelled it. http://www.gutenberg.org
It's a really interesting eBook project. It's mainly for works that have passed into the public domain, though.

Bah, that'll teach me not to check my links.
Anyway, it's a great site for a lot of older literature. I read the complete works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle off of it a few years ago.
-
I have never downloaded anything illegally. Ever.
Not even songs mate, I'm a ****ing angel.
-
Never bothered to learn how to use torrents. And with all the potential security risks associated with them, I have no reason to start. :D
-
So Sig, >>SUBJECT CHANGE<< what's this survey for anyway?
-
Personal project, results will not be used against anyone and like I said--completely anonymous.
-
I Torrent (legally) many linux distro's. You can also (with the authors permission) Torrent many freeware or shareware applications so long as they are unmodified.
And let's not forget the TBP DVD and the MediaVPs. I share those out via Torrent as well as an alternative to browser downloading.
I also have music from local bands not on a record deal for promotional purposes.
-

Music samples. Or porn.
-
Linux, movies (some ski movies, other documentaries like Home), music, games. Anything really, there's a lot of good free stuff out there.
-
Frequently.
I mostly get things like UNIX/Linux distros, large free apps (OpenOffice, Mods, etc), I do get the occasional Windows ISO when I lose a copy.
-
BitTorrent was the only way for me to get Steal This Film (and it was INTENDED to be distributed over the protocol), so I used it to get that.
