Title: (WIP) HTL Alastor
Post by: Admiral_Petrarch on September 27, 2009, 12:03:34 pm
Yesterday I started a WIP with the Alastor Sentry Gun, because I thought it would be easy to upgrade. Perhaps because the model is symmetrical or because the model looks very simple.

This is my first screenshot.

Only one part is upgraded. I will upgrade the turrets after the main hull.
Edited in 3DS

Where'd all your posts go?

And are you upgrding / editing the existing model

About time the sentries got an up9r4d3 though

It's an upgrade of the retail Alastor.

You're thinking of "Admiral Petrarch of the VBB", this is "Admiral_Petrarch"

At least, I'm pretty sure they're different people.

Yeah. It's true, we're different people.

What's the size of the actual gun turret? I'm just thinking... you might rip the turret from the Medusa and slap it on the Alastor. Quick 'n dirty but very effective.

The Alastor is a very weird design to begin with... Maybe you can come up with something interesting.

I could see some sort of cross-braces or other sort of supports working really well on the interior of the arms.  As it stands, the thing always looked like it was about ready to fold into itself. :p

Everything there could be done better, faster, easier, prettier, and more efficiently with normal maps.

Just FYI.

What are you doing with the inner bit? It would look better as a sphere of somesort.

Yeah, I can't really make anything out there.

Are you going to leave the side supports paper thin?

I can't tell what the heck I'm looking at in those screenshots, Petrarch.

Yeah, but those at least make me want to find out more. This, unfortunately for the modeler, does not.

If I ever find myself doing something like... taking close-up shots like so... it means the other parts of the model are not right in some regard. I bet he's only taking shots of what he thinks looks good while trying to sort out the problems in the model as a whole. "Selective beauty shots" aren't bad, but...

...we're on to you, man...

Um, guys can you not debate why the screenshots are zoomed in?
Title: Re: (WIP) HTL Alastor

It is possible that the reason he has it zoomed in so closely is because such minor changes have been done, making it so if it was zoomed out to show the whole model, we may not be able to easily notice if there have been changes.

Yes. I've made only a small part of the model, so the changes are minor. That's why the screenshots are too zoomed in.
