Title: My idea of a Freespace board game.
Post by: Marcov on September 29, 2009, 06:07:35 am
This is my idea of a Freespace board game. I don't know how we can challenge each other, in fact I'm just typing this for fun (  :D )

*I use the "it" pronoun to replace he/she

Instructions. Each player has 12 pieces. Each player should choose its* flagship. This should be something larger than a destroyer, like the Lucifer or a Colossus. Also, you can arrange them in any way, but they must always be on the first two rows.

All pieces are hidden. Everytime a piece attacks another piece, both the attacker and victim should reveal themselves.

Note: At the center of each player's base lies a Sun that you must destroy. For the GTVA side, you must destroy the Capella Sun, and for the Shivan side, you must destroy the Sol Sun. To win the game, you must destroy your opponent's Sun, or defeat all of its* pieces.

Each player can customize its pieces, but must retain the rule of 12 pieces. Also, you should follow these customization rules:
,
1. You should only own one superdestroyer/juggernaut every game.
For instance, you cannot own a Hades and a Colossus at the same time.

2. You should have 1 destroyer, 2 corvettes, and 2 cruisers.

3. You should have 3 fighter wings and 3 bomber wings.

Note: You can change the type of capship/fighter wing/bomber wing, as long as they are the specified amount.

The game could be rather complicated compared to Chess (I think), anyways. Here are the rules for the pieces:

1. A juggernaut has 1000 hitpoints.
2. A superdestroyer has 800 hitpoints.
3. A destroyer has 500 hitpoints.
4. A corvette has 250 hitpoints.
5. A light cruiser has 150 hitpoints.
6. A heavy cruiser has 200 hitpoints.
7. A fighter/bomber wing consists of 6 fighters/bombers. Each fighter/bomber is 25 hp, making an overall of 150 hp.
8. The Capella Sun has 2000 hitpoints, but can't attack.

More specific rules:

1. Everytime one of your pieces attacks an enemy piece, both of your pieces should get damaged.

2. Any capital ship can attack from the front or side. For instance, there's an enemy cruiser East of your destroyer, and a corvette  South. You can only attack the cruiser, leaving you vulnerable to the corvette. (that's why the best is to engage from South :) )

3. A capital ship can only fire its beam/s at an enemy capital ship. A beam has a range of two blocks, while flak guns and lasers have a range of only one block.

4. Fighter and Bomber wings can only attack a ship one block in front of it, except Heavy Bomber wings (which have turrets).

5. Heavy Bomber wings can attack ANYWHERE, but if it attacks at its side and back, less damage, since it only fires its turrets.

The Speed and Damage Systems:

Every type of ship has a certain speed. A juggernaut can only move per 4 turns, a superdestroyer, destroyer,  corvette, and heavy cruiser can move only 3 turns, a heavy fighter/bomber wing (a wing consisting of Hercs/Ursas) can move per 2 turns, a light cruiser can also move 2 turns, and a light fighter/bomber wing (a wing consisting of Perseus/Artemises) can move per 1 turn.

Every class of ship has a certain

The Ships:
                  HEAVY   LIGHT       HEAVY    LIGHT
Fighters = Hercules, Perseus | Basilisk, Dragon
Bombers = Artemis, Ursa | Nahema, Seraphim

                  HEAVY        LIGHT     HEAVY   LIGHT

Mmm you could also use this (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=61159.0) as a reference, maybe copying some of the features used there... might be a good guide also.

After 40 turns, a single wing of GTF Perseus causes the Capella sun to go supernova.

Perhaps using
Code: [Select]
tags will help the table.

Heh. I remember when I discovered that. I made a post about it in GD, since it didn't change my post count there. It was promptly locked.

This is an interesting concept. Presumably this is meant to be played on a square grid. Something to take into account is turning and manoeuvring the ships.
Also when I saw this post I was a bit shocked having just posted about this myself, but this is a much lower level, which is a good thing (we must have simple rules sets, as well as complex). But yeah this looks like a really good idea.  :)
