Title: NVM this, bury. (stardock/ups/fox thing)
Post by: MR_T3D on September 30, 2009, 01:18:58 pm
Apparently My thread was intended to inform users about stardock boycotting UPS because of their Boycott of FOX over 'idelogical reasons' (gawd, i hope that's spelled right..).
might aswell lock this thread now.
it appears that my source's source (the escapist) was part of a chain of retelling branching into craziness.
porps to SpardaSon for posting this:

So, I was browsing through the Stardock forums, and I saw a post by Brad, who was using his forum name of Frogboy.

I responded to this here:

Basically, I read that UPS was boycotting Fox News (in total). It annoyed me and mentioned it on my Facebook page. One of my friends on Facebook then copied and pasted it and added on which in turn got added on and pretty soon all kinds of quotes were being attributed to me.

This is what I actually said: (from Facebook)

UPS has apparently pulled all their ads from Fox News. Will have to see if this is the case. I don't like to see companies trying to push their ideology on others.

And I told our guys to look at seeing if Fed Ex is cheaper (we rarely look at this sort of thing since it's all basically the same) and it turned out they were slightly cheaper so we use them for fulfilmment (for now anyway).

But since there was so little "story" to this, each retelling of it kept getting crazier and crazier until it turned into some thing about Glenn Beck (a show I don't watch).

For the record, I don't watch much TV which includes Fox News.  I occasionally watch Special Report and Hardball (which is on MSNBC) and House and Simpsons and Family Guy. But beyond that, I just don't have much time for TV.

The issue has been debated endlessly already by people who take politics a lot more seriously than I do. My thing was simply that all things being equal, if I have two shippers to choose from I'll go with the one that doesn't use their ad dollars as a means to protest something.  Just my personal opinion, others may disagree.

People who do want to discuss or debate can do so here:

I don't see anything wrong with this picture.  Brad Wardell can decide what shippers his company uses.

From my understanding, UPS is making a huge scene over pulling advertising from Fox, and Brad has decided he doesn't like UPS making such a big stink over it.  He's not boycotting UPS because they stopped advertising on Fox, he's boycotting them because they are raising a scene.

So he's raising a scene over someone raising a scene.
 :blah:
And now we're raising a scene over Stardock raising a scene over UPS raising a scene over FOX News.
 :wtf:

At some point, the chain must stop, for sanity's sake. The first scene-raising was medium-dumb, and they just get stupider from there. (No offense, Mr_T3D ;))

I wasn't trying to raise a scene, I would imagine me raising a scene would have had a higher-than average typo rate, and be worded like 'ZOMG STardocKKK boycots UPS boycotting FOX' or to theat extent.
and wow, i guess i got word of it from some of the crrazier retellings, his quote makes it all seem very logical,
I'm going to alter the OP with Spardason's post quoted, and ask for lock.

Stardock is a independent video game publisher/developer.  They created GalCiv2, and are the publishers for Demigod and Sins of a Solar Empire.  They also created Impulse, which is a less-restrictive version of Steam.

As to why you should care about Stardock, they are the anti-EA.
