Wooo.  I was just flying one of these the other day and hoping that someone would take a stab at it. :)

Did the "eyes" always have that black thing in the center?

Edit: Also, the insides of the arms look a bit "noisy", id est there's a lot of stuff going on there and it's hard to make out the details / what I'm looking at.

Edit the Second: Just curious, what's that Terran ship in the background of the bottom-right Tauret pic (in the multi-ship composite image)?

This is relevant to my interests.

...do you want a badge? :nervous: Because, I'm quite sure you would be a welcome addition to the FSU team.

Seconded.

Aardwolf: If by "eyes" you mean the green upper primaries, yes, these are the barrels.
The insides of the arms are UVmapped in a very "noisy" part of the texture in the retail model. I used the same with a small change to the UVmap 'cause i liked it better this way.
I really don't remember what ship is that, it's from a very crowded scene I've made.  :)

Herra and Zacam: Well, this is quite an honor for a noob.

You're not giving yourself enough credit. People who can produce a stable model, uvmap it and convert it into POF are greatly valued.

It's a Poseidon docked to container, but you need to look really close.

The bottom of the fighter looks quite fearsome... Voodoo mask, anyone?

I've yet to see any work of yours I didn't like, Peter.

Cheers.

Looks in-game. There's a GTFr Poseidon hiding in the bottom right corner.

It's several different in-game screenshots composited to look like they're all in the same scene at once.

High Max: They are ingame shots. The settings are the ones Zacam proposed in the release of MediaVPS.

The table file for the Terran version contains the right data for the trails.

My only complaint is that the Terran version shouldn't really be using Terran thrusters, it's only the cockpit that changes...

Other than that,

Then it wouldn't be Terran.

I kid. And the Table is easy enough to change the Species on.

Arguably, but as far as I know Snail's right; the only time we see Terrans operating Taurets in FS2 is when Alpha 1 is involved in the pilot exchange operation, and those ships definitely were equipped with Vasudan technology with only cockpit adapted to suit human physiology.

It's a trivial thing to change in the table, though, but in my opinion the ship should indeed use Vasudan thrusters even when flown by terran pilots.

Also, welcome to the team peterv. :)

Unfortunately, I think the cockpits and clear glass will have to go.

Duplicating another ships table entry (even via tbm) for every player flyable vasudan ship that shows a terran at the cockpit is going to get out of hand.

However: peterv, keep making them with vasudan\terran cockpits. Some day, the code may support swapping cockpits. So we don't want to lose that data or have to ga back through later and add them.

In the meantime, we could just use non-transparent textures.

 Use a different cockpit glass texture for the Vasudan fighters.

In the meantime I have no problem with Vasudan pilots in Vasudan fighters, even if the story requires that certain fighters have Terrans in them. It's such a trivial detail it hardly matters.

Peter, what is the relative size of a Vasudan in the cockpit of one of your fighters? I have to ask, as Vasudans are quite a bit larger than Terrans, especially in height.

The Vasudan Tauret does not automagically appear in the Tech Database, so no, it does not interfere.

I took the regular Glass and Glass-Shine texture, removed the Alpha channel from glass. I then colored the Alpha channel on the -shine (after pasting it on to the RGB) into being solid 808080 (hex). It looks pretty damn cool. I've called it NoGlass.

OOOps !

Thaeris: This particular Vasudan is about 40cm higher than the Terran.

I love this model, but the link is broken, so I need to wait until I get it.

Bakha and Tauret :

Please note that both of them are not the finals. They work,  but there are errors in the Pof data, Zacam works to fix them.
