I screwed up my FS2 install a while ago messing with Inferno. I reciently uninstalled everything, redownloaded the installer from GOG and used the off line SCP installer found here http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=64634.0
Every time I try start a game using the launcher, mod or no mod, I get the following error
Error: icons.tbl(line 6:
Error: Missing required token: [#Start]. Found [:] instead.
File: PARSELO.CPP
Line: 670
Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------
In my searches, this is usually caused by having non retail VPs in the root folder, but I'm rather sure I don't have any thing out of place. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Please run a debug build (one of those with a d in the filename), and then post the fs2_open.log from the data folder here.

error changed slightly
Error: icons.tbl(line 6:
Error: Missing required token: [#Start]. Found [:] instead.
File: PARSELO.CPP
Line: 670
Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
required_string() brief_parse_icon_tbl() game_init() game_main() WinMain() WinMainCRTStartup() kernel32.dll 7645eccb()
ntdll.dll 770cd24d()
ntdll.dll 770cd45f()

However it didn't generate a log.
I did try running the launcher as Administrator (Vista Ultimate 64-bit) and the problem went away, the game was able to launch. Is it normal to have to run the launcher as administrator?
-
Running a debug build will always generate a log. Look in <FS2 dir>\data\. And no, you shouldn't have to run the program as an admin; Checking if your install is OK is imperative.
-
I have the launcher pointing to C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Freespace 2\fs2_open_3_6_10d.exe but its still not generating the log. I tried to edit the permissions on the folder, giving users full control on the Freespace 2 dir but a log still doesn't appear.
The log does appear when running the launcher as administrator, but the error doesn't occur then. Still, I've attached that log in case it does help in some way.

When you open the data folder, there should be a button called "Compatibility Files". Click on that to get the files Vista tries to hide. For future reference, you should probably move the FS2 folder out of C:\Program Files (x86)\
Oh, and with your Card, playing at a resolution better than 640x480 @ 16 bit should be possible.

Ugh, its times like these when I wonder why moved from XP
I found the log, attaching it to the post.
Any suggestions on where to put the FS2 folder on Vista? It doesn't matter to me, but if theres a well known working place, I'd like to put it there.
As far as the graphics, I'm planning on putting them on max once everything appears to be working
Thanks

C:/Games
is as good as any

Hmmm. Go to the FS2 folder, click on compatibility files, and make sure there's no inferno vp hidden there.
-
Yep, that'd be it, and a number of folders from "uninstalled" mods.
Thanks
