No I'm not emo.
...
Ok maybe I am but that's not the point of this thread.
The Newgrounds Electronic EP contest has come and gone, and my song was not selected. So, should I go and make my own album and sell it, or should I just release the song I had posted a demo for and forget about the whole thing?
-
Stick with it!
-
For what it's worth, I say sell an album, get your name out there and make some money while you're at it.

I've never liked those online contests. They're just a way to get artists to work for free.
Just keep doing what you're doing.

With all due respect and kindness, I prefer not paying for music. :D

Yeah I'm more interested in how many people would give money for music. Obviously the majority wouldn't want to pay anything.

Go here Blackhole...
http://www.kerchoonz.com
It might be more lucrative / beneficial to your career than www.newgrounds.com

If you plan to release some stuff on the Creative Commons, I'd suggest you to try out Jamendo (http://www.jamendo.com). You can either download for free or pay for an album, get commercial licenses etc. etc.
Also, just because you don't get picked out on a contest doesn't mean you failed. It's frustrating for sure, but failure? Neh. I always tend to believe that the judges were wrong or that "They didn't undersand my work" :ick:

well i failed at getting a gig :P
That site wants wav files. I do not want to spend an hour uploading wav files of all my stuff.

It's always difficult to decide whether to release a track or keep it to your chest, people will judge you on the quality of what they hear, so it's always good to get your music out there, however, if you hand out too much, people won't bother considering the album.
I'd suggest, with things like demos etc, that you release, generate an interest in your stuff that is high enough to consider writing a side project of an album. I don't know how much self-promotion you've done, but if you haven't already, I'd recommend posting your stuff to as many audio sites as you can, and possibly even to youTube.
If there's one thing I know about composing, it's that there's always more music in there, so it's not like you'll ever run out of ideas ;)

A number of people actually end up posting my songs to youtube for me, which is often amusing. I *have* done a fair amount of self promotion, although most of my exposure comes when i actually write a good song that gets on the top charts of CTG music or on the frontpage of newgrounds. Actually almost all my exposure has come from newgrounds and CTG, since they're the only sites where I've gotten on the charts. I'm on last.fm too, because people kept uploading my songs so i uploaded my entire catalog on there so people could listen to it, but I still don't have very many listeners.

Ok so maybe you are a little emo ;)

So you need some promotion...we have lots of people here...
I would rather download music rather than listen to it on a streaming site, unless you need to pay for it ;)
It would be nice for people to enjoy some different genres sometimes; many seem to like the "mainstream" only.
Edit: What happened to "Risuko's Tears"? I don't see it on the new website... It can't be that "not-up-to-standard" can it?
I was listening to that mega-mashup thing, for some reason this animation suited it...

I really really hate what I did with risuko's tears. Maybe i'll fix it so I can listen to it without wincing and upload it again.
-
I only listen to bands that make people stare listlessly at me when I ask them about them.

What was wrong? Anyway it'll be fun to compare the versions. :)
You don't, by any chance, happen to like that crappy "I'm on a mother @#*^$@&^8 92^$(^$( 9@^$( *^@498@^$9 *@$^ boat!" song not-song do you? :doubt: ;)
-
No one with a sense of humor and a reasonable serotonin level can dislike 'I'm On A Boat'. :p
-
Prefer I'm On A Blimp myself, but I must agree. :P

What about hate? :p
It's just that my sisters play it soooo many times....when there's no-one to tell them off for the language... ;)
Edit: :sigh: at blimp.
btw, have you made any more progress on promoting yourself, blackhole?
-
I've been revisiting Risuko's Tears and may re-release it later on after I've had time to fix it up.
And promote myself? Are you kidding? I've been working 8 hours a day on my game, while trying to balance college at the same time (with varying degrees of success - goodbye microeconomics grade). Of course, the fact that I've been #1 on CTG (http://www.ctgmusic.com/charts.php) for the last 2 weeks kind of helps.
I'd be more willing to promote myself if I thought my music was really good. As it is I think its kind of average and I'm still not satisfied with it. It would help if I actually had time to spend on music, but alas, it is but a hobby and doesn't pay the bills. Making stuff blow up in the most entertaining way possible, however, does :P
I'm on a boat is the most hilarious thing ever in small doses, but can quickly get very boring. It actually has a good melody though.
Besides, what the hell else am I going to put there? :P
