Title: Mod Request =>FreeSpace:Privateer(or better name )

first off, I am originally a WC Ace pilot(to explain where this request comes from)

But basically, was wondering if a Privateer style mod set in the Freespace cannon or Inferno worlds(Using VegaStrike not FSO) sounds like a good idea to anyone other then me

IF this idea generates enough interest, I will *TRY* , repeat *TRY*, to learn how to make a V-Strike mod

*EDIT*=>VegaStrike can be obtained from VegaStrike.sourceforge.net (if anyone wants to see what the base game/engine looks/feels like)

i would support such a move

issues as i see it

1) many of the rules of subspace would have to be established (potential massacre point for the FS purists)
2) the most obvious is establishing an economy including a possible need for licensing and regulation structure
3) we know next to nothing about the "civilian" side of FS (another potential massacre point for the FS purists)

Plus points

FS is a beautiful universe i would love to explore from a new angle even if it is only an "interpretation" of canon

I don't know if anyone's actually made a serious go of doing something along these lines (beyond Freespacelancer (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=29170.0)) but you've gotta remember you'll be trying to shoehorn a fundamentally different type of game into the FS engine. It's a great idea, and I'd love to play a game like this, but I'd strongly suggest getting someone who can make some kind of code changes to make it easier.

Alternatively, you could do it in FRED, but you're going to have some crazy complex mission files and lots of campaign persistant variables.

To:headdie= It is mainly because the Civilian side is all but ignored in Freespace that i think this is worth a shot(especially the "empty" space between FS1 and FS2), also got kinda inspired *trying* to play a mod for FSO where you are a merchant(can't remember it's name)

Amusingly, this is one of FS's greatest features in my book when held up against other space-based games. :p It would be cool to see more people fool around with the concept, though.
