I really enjoyed the first Freespace's soundtrack... I've downloaded Freespace 2's soundtrack off GoG but I don't like it as much as the originals... anyone know where I can get it?
-
Yep, just extract it from the VP files with Maja or VPView32 or VPMage or whatever.
I use VPView, it's very easy.
-
Uhh... do I need need to install the original Freespace?
-
You need the FSPort, at least.
-
Neato. Thanks everyone.
-
No worries Lee

Mind you, you're going to get several tracks that are like 30 seconds to 1 minute long that are meant to be pieced together ingame via events.
If someone has high quality (using the high-bitrate tracks) meshed together musics, that would be awesome!
-
I have the "meshed-together" tracks, but I'm keeping them. Just use the MV_music_high (?) .vp archive and put it together yourself. It's really easy, just get Audacity or summat like that.
-
Someone made some mashups of the FS tracks awhile ago. I've uploaded them here. Grab them quick, because I'll be taking them down in a few days.

If you purchase FS1 or FS2 on Good Old Games (GOG.com), then it gives you the option to download the game's soundtrack in mp3 format.

Tried. Failed. Cried.
I've never used any audio editing programs before, and I got screwed over when I had to stick 22.1kHz stuff with 44.2kHz stuff and I think possibly a few 48kHz stuff into the same track.
-
I have my mashups uploaded here (http://cid-78eece80a0658c61.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/Descent%20FreeSpace%20-%20The%20Great%20Freeloader%5E4s%20Soundtrack). Feel free to download them if you want.
EDIT: By the way, Goober, I downloaded your ZIP, and those files look and sound a great deal like the ones I uploaded. They probably are, given that the file names are the same.
EDIT 2: I should also probably get around to re-releasing them with their proper names some day. :p

Any chance of cleaned up FS2 mashups? :D

Awesome. :) I had forgotten who had made them and where they were uploaded. I've taken down my zip.
And I agree with Kolgena: you ought to do the FS2 ones now. :D

Yeah well, when I have the time. School's just started, so if you want me to do HQ mashups, wait till Christmas or mid-February. The original retail-quality mashups, however, were done quite a while ago, and I can upload them sometime over the next few days if you want.
-
Retail-quality mashups would be fine.

Only for Freespace 2, not the first.

I'd love the HQ ones for a Christmas present, if you don't mind :)

MAshups tend to be mixes between two different songs. Is that the case with these?
I'll download if they're good
-
More like a compilation of in-game music events.
The organisation of files on my SkyDrive is messed up. I'll need to re-structure the whole thing once I have the time to do so. Until then, I'll just leave the compilations uploaded where they are.
-
Double-post. :D
All right, the FS2 soundtrack compilations that I've done up are now at here (http://cid-78eece80a0658c61.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/FreeSpace%202/warble%5E_fs2.vp%20Compilations). You'll notice the HQ remix for FS2_E, also known as Revelation. That was done simply because I had the original three MP3 pieces on my Mac for a time. Victory Fanfare A is the Objective Completed sound and FS2_Vict_A combined, just like how I did the ending for FS1's M3.
The files at the above link will stay there even if I do actually get around to restructuring the stuff on my SkyDrive.
