New to the forms and just recently installed FS2 and all the upgrades. I had a quick question regarding some of the new enhancements.
I was just wondering if there was a way to disable the moving stars in the backgrounds. I only experience this effect in FS2, not the FS1 Port. It slows down performance on my machine for really no benefit in my mind. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hmmm..
I know you can change it in Fred, but toggleing it? I think it's in the launcher settings somewhere.. Disable motion debris maybe?
Oh and
:welcome:

Motion debris is different. As far as I know, the only way to disable the motion blur effect stars is to set their number to zero on the mission files. However, I personally would welcome a command line switch for them with open arms; in my opinion they look very out of place with skyboxes since the skybox stars don't blur at all, but removing the retail stars from the mediaVP missions is something I'm not sure would be a good idea since they have their fans as well as opposers. A cmdline switch would be ideal as it would allow people to decide for themselves if they want the retail stars or not.
However I would like to express my doubt in the assumption that the retail stars would be causing performance loss significant enough to show on any computer recent enough to play FS2_Open. They aren't exactly computationally intensive compared to a lot of the stuff that the mediaVP's use.
I would rather just want to get rid of them because they look like arse compared to rest of the background materials. :ick:

Get a skybox. They now override the retail stars.
It's not a new enhancement, it's an old feature (that I actually rather like).

They do? :nervous:
In that case this fellow is not using the mediaVP's with FS2 campaign, as he says that he sees the retail stars with FS2 (but not with FSPort).

Yeah. It's so that there won't be stars on planetary skyboxes.

No.
It has been there since retail. It only becomes visible when the game is running slowly, because the lines are updated every frame, and if the frames are close enough together (in time), the lines will be very very short.
