Title: Turey's installer
Post by: knightal on October 23, 2009, 10:37:36 pm
Hi all,

I recently came across Turey's installer for FS2 having played this game way back I jumped in and downloaded the "Installer"  I then Chose to install "The works: Absolutely Everything" into a folder C:\Games\Freespace2

Before I bore you with my problems as I am not a programmer may I ask is this download meant to be added to the original game files so as to enhance the original or is it a full working version of the game.

I would be greatfull if some one with a bit more insight could point me in the right direction. I'm happy to buy the full version from GOG if needed  :)

I can give more details if needed

Just quickly when I click on the launcher icon all I get is a series of error messages:-
unrecogzined command line parameter -2d_poof, continue?
The launcher must be in the same directory as the binary you are trying to use

freespace launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are

sorry for the inconvenience

Failed to read flag file

Regards
Allan

Yes, the Installer requires that you have the full retail version of FS2 installed beforehand in order for its content to function properly.  There was a time when it included retail FS2, back when the game wasn't legally available outside of $100 eBay auctions, but now that GOG has a cheap, convenient means of purchasing it, it's been happily removed, and we highly encourage everyone to take advantage of GOG's offer.  Once you've installed it to the same directory as you downloaded all of the content to, you should be all set.

Once you do get FS2 from GOG, I recommend learning how to do a manual install as well. That way, you lean exactly what you need and get exactly what you want.
