For a campaign I want to make, I need to make the player's spot in the wing #4 (so their name would be -Wing Name 4-), I thought it would be as easy as changing the name once I made the wing, but that didn't works, so now I'm wondering if this is possible or not.
Note: I really only need this to be in the mission, so if there is a way to change the names of everyone in the wing once the mission starts that will work as well.

Definitely possible you need to check the player ship box in the ship editor for wing ship 4 and uncheck it for wing ship 1.
Actually there is a set as player ship button now instead of just using the check box. If you want the player to also be the wing leader then update the wing leader in the wing editor as well.

The option seems to be grayed out, I can't select it.

Uh, just select 'Wing Name 4', hit 'set as player ship'.
Easy as pie. Make sure you're using FRED2_Open, preferably 3.6.10 final.

Set the mission type as a multiplayer co-op mission in the mission specs (SHIFT + N) then change the player, then set back to single... i think.

Thanks, its working, though I ended up misspelling the wing name and needed to restart. (-Facepalm-)
-
Not restart the whole mission, I hope! You can just hit the 'dissolve wing' button and recreate it.

Yah, thats what I meant. Though, luckily, I was setting up the players wing first. Anyway now to get to work on the mission.

Which method did you use? ;)

I used your method.

I just tested the click on the set as player ship box before editing that fist post and it worked so I know that one will do it.
