Title: What does the UV from UV Mapping stand for?

Stupid question - Topic title say it all.

and before anyone says anything about this not being in the right section, i posted here because i'd feel stupid posting it in the FS upgrade or FS Modding section

Ah! thanks...I was coming up with some wierd results using UV as an acronym

Textured polygons have two sets of 3D coordinates, UVW XYZ. But since not many applications use 3D textures, polies are mapped using the U and V coordinates.
