What this is:
The FRED2 Mission Challenge is a contest I will hold (assuming that I am not breaking any rules). The way it works is that I will post a theme or general idea for a mission, you have until the end of 10 days to make a mission that fits the theme or idea. Then after 10 days, everyone will vote on which mission they like best, and at the end of that week the one with the most votes will win. All winning missions will go into a Winning Missions topic that will be link to in all future Mission Callenges.
The Rules
1. All missions must be compatible with the most current version of the FreeSpace2 SCP.
2. Mods are allowed but must be included with your mission, and must be compatible with the most current version of the FreeSpace2 SCP.
3. To enter you must either attach or provide a download link to your mission (and any mods that go with it) in a reply to this topic.
4. You may only submit 1 mission per contest.
5. I cannot stress this one enough. YOU MAY ONLY SUBMIT YOUR OWN MISSIONS. IF ANY MISSION YOU SUBMIT IS FOUND TO BE MADE BY SOMEONE ELSE , I WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY FURTHER SUBMISSIONS FROM YOU. NO EXCEPTIONS!
This weeks mission:
In this weeks mission, during a battle with the NTF, the GTVA managed to disable an NTF Orion, and now they want to capture it. Of course the NTF doesn't like this idea and is going to try to stop the GTVA.
Final Notes:
Good Luck to Everyone.

Hmm, nice idea, BUT: The main question in my mind is, who are you? Don't take this the wrong way, but I'd rather have some of the more experienced people running this.
Also, "weakly challenge"? It should be an AWESOME challenge!
-
Don't worry, I understand completely, and if someone more experienced wanted to I'd gladly hand it over to them. If not then I'll do my best to run it myself. I just want to make the forums a little more interesting (not that they are not already interesting).
EDIT: Though I do want to give this a try before it comes to something like that.

Sounds like a good idea but isn't a week is a bit short especially for people lacking in FRED experience? Perhaps more time would help attract more participant interest and also allow people to put out better quality missions. I'd say two weeks at least for making a mission with a full weekend available, which would be better for us with full time jobs and/or other commitments. :)
-
Ok, I'll change that. I can sometimes be a bit forgetful so I was worried that if it was longer I would forget. But I guess I'll be safe if I make this topic my homepage.
-
I think a week is a good time to get a simple but well planned mission set up, huge development times game in when combining the mission with modifications and tbh something like this will quickly generate enjoyable missions to play with variety on how to handle the same idea
-
I see, in that can I'll see how many entries I get in a week, and if I get enough to hold a reasonable contest, I'll set the time for future contests at a week, but I'll leave this one at 2, simply because its my first one and it will be good to have the extra time if something decides to blow up in my face.
Actually, scratch that, I'll make it a week, (7 full days, and have the voting the following week), that should be reasonable, if people want more time I'll give it if it becomes a necessity.
-
Can we go with two weeks (or 10 days), then one week for
judging voting, reflecting those schedules that are unfortunately not made up of free time?
-
10 days seems nice, just give me a bit to edit my post.
EDIT: Main post edited

Hmmm...maybe you could make all the missions go together and make some sort of "community-FREDded" campaign.
That is, if anyone bites.
Incentive to get something done could be basically, having your name in the production credits, and, if the story is good enough, getting to know the next part (you might want to work with some people and come up with a basically spotless storyline if you intend to do this : basically, what The E said about getting some more experienced people to help run it).
I'm concerned that lack of interest would kill this fairly interesting idea. I mean, I can see it turning out epic, but I can also see it turning out like crap or just dropping off the face of the earth entirely.
-
That would be an interesting idea. This could be a nice way to get several concept missions ready and then choose the one that best fits the next mission arc.
This could get... interesting.
-
I would suggest something more like a month for contest time myself. Long enough for everyone interested to have a chance (more participation) but short enough that people won't lose interest.
-
10 Days and no entries. In that case I'll give 10 more, and will continue like this until a reasonable number of people enter.
-
Oy, man. I gotta say, if I'm gonna take time to do any FREDding, it'll probably be for an ongoing project. I think FRED contests are a great idea, but all the active FREDders may be busy.
Good on you for trying it out, though.

My Term Paper reared its ugly head Thursday. I'm booked.
And the Argo I was using turned the Orion into the Baseball Bat of Doom Mk. II
-
For the university students among us, now is not the best time for a FRED contest. I've really got very little free time until mid-December, and I'm sure others are in a similar situation (papers are falling due).
-
Yep.
-
Sounds interesting. I ll wait to have more i. time ii. FREDing experience, but can be fun.
-
Great idea, if I get any free time I might participate in a few of these...
Just one problem though, I think a bit more time would be appropriate. I doubt any dedicated fredders would be submitting anything if you give them only 1 week to play and test.

Ditto everything.
