Title: A little question about score/rank
Post by: Asakura on November 04, 2009, 12:57:09 am
Finally hit Captain after a good number of rounds through the campaign... was just wondering if replaying the campaign is the only way to raise the score.

Difficulty and ship size makes a difference in points awarded typically too.
If you play on insane all the way through the campaign it only takes what...2 playthroughs? 3? (I don't remember) to get to captain.

Going beyond the next rank (Commodore) is very time consuming no matter what you do (other than cheating by altering missions/making your own with high point scores).

You can increase it by playing different campaigns as well.

Play the old and awful campaign Independance Warriors if you can find it. I made Admiral with one play through, starting at Ensign

This is the single fastest way to become Admiral. It'll take you about 10 minutes tops:
Open FRED.
Select your fighter, Make Wing "Alpha"
Open "Objectives"
Add new Objective.
Set "Score" to 100000000 (or whatever arbitrary high number you want).
Save.
Make Campaign, Select the mission.
Save.
Run FS2.
Select your campaign
"Play" it.
Insta-admiral. :D

Of course, it is completely meaningless.

What exactly are the modifiers on score for each difficulty anyway... and other things as well, Hercs were lobbing rockeyes at me from over about 2.2 clicks out.

Unless insane isn't challenging to you it's normally considered most efficient to play on hard for points.
I can't remember the exact points modifiers but insane doesn't give you much of a benefit over hard (read; hard gives a bigger benefit over medium than insane does over hard).

Pft...just edit hte ship.tbl and bump up the score value of some ships.

Put 1000 on a Mara. You should make an admiral in no time given how many of those you destroy.

Play Second Great War Part II, I heard that somebody got to Admiral there.
The campaing itself is closer to a joke though, so don't take it seriously.

Ranks would be more fun if they actually did give something... I mean, something better than "go read a book " xd

Well it does get a bit awry when Admiral is like 60 times the score of Captain. If you can hit Captain in 3 runs through the standard campaign on insane that is about finishing the game over and again for 180 times or so...

Do you really think even a commodore would be flying? ;p
