Minutes silence. It's on the eleventh, at eleven past eleven.
I think there's one today (sunday) at one oh clock too. Might be wrong, must check and correct but i'm too tired at the moment.

Remind me, what are we remembering?
-
Armistice day. :blah:
-
WW II eve
-
About six weeks late for that one, BL.
-
Remind me, what are we remembering?
Dead Soldiers from wars past and present, honouring their memory and sacrifice. Poppies etc.

We do that on memorial day.
-
You guys have a memorial day?

Wait, what?
WW2 eve, the start of the war is generally held to be September 1, 1939. Though I suppose you were being clever and referencing the end of WWI and the Treaty of Versailles as laying the ground work for WW2.
Yes we have Memorial Day which originally was meant to commemorate the Union dead in the Civil War, after WWI it expanded to honor all of the US' casualties. The Civil War if I recall correctly still stands as the most costly conflict in American lives. The Veterans Day the holiday that falls on Nov 11 began as Armistice Day but later expanded to cover all conflicts and is meant to honor vets in general instead of just those who fell in service.

I was, but apparently I wasn't clever enough

For The Fallen
With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.
Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.
But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;
As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.
Never forget. :(

Bump for the actual day.

1 minutes silence at 11:11.

I did my best to observe silence at exactly 11:11 today. Partially succeeded before the phones started ringing again... but I did for about 45 seconds. It'll have to do... *sigh*
