Hi,
I'm reasonably new to mapping with FRED2. I'm using FRED2Open 3.6.10, and my level looks pretty terrible when I run it in game with mediavps enabled, it looks like standard FS2, which JUST ISNT GOOD ENOUGH :P. There are also graphical faults, etc. So I was wondering, how do you actually get a single level created in FRED2 to run with the mediavps enabled? I want sexy visuals damnit!
Thanks.

You need to add the mod to the FRED2 shortcut via the -mod flag, for example mine reads:
C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fred2_open_3_6_11r_sse2.exe "-mod mediavps,vpr"
This will load the two mod folder contents into FRED2 at start-up. Add mods via the launcher for the game, the release thread should tell you how to do this though it's pretty much self explanatory.

Okay, I'm starting FRED2 and designing my mission with the -mod mediavps switch, but it still seems to run poorly in game, as if it weren't loaded. And I am starting FS2 Open with the mediavps enabled as well, which works fine on normal levels but doesnt run on mine...

What VPR said is essentially correct. To get the mediavps goodness (as well as the new backgrounds etc) available in FRED, you need to create a shortcut to your FRED exe, richt-click on it, and add "-mod mediavps" to the target field. Note that you do need to use FRED2_Open for this.
To get the mediavps goodness in the game, you need to select the mediavps as the active mod.
Should that not work for some reason, select a debug build (fs2_open_3_6_10d.exe) in the Launcher, run it, try to load the mission, and then post the fs2_open.log from your data folder here.

Have you enabled all the features in the launcher like normal maps etc? What's your PC spec?

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.
I've done all you said and it still don't work, I'll run a debug build in a minute. My PC is pretty high spec and runs the default FS2 campaign with mediavps fine. I've DEFINITELY got them enabled for both FRED2 and FS2.

What's your actual graphics card and can you upload a screenshot of the graphical faults? At the moment it seems to me it's a problem with your graphics card or a driver issue. Running the debug should pick something up though.

Dang this is annoying. It saved the Screens as TGA so I have to convert them before I upload them. Also despite running the debug I can't find an fs2_open.log. The amusing thing is, I am not an idiot with computers at all. I can describe however. My mission, under the debug build with mediavps ENABLED, doesnt have any of the background's graphical enhancements, and runs at 10FPS despite having only a destroyer, aeolus cruiser and 2 wings of fighter onscreen. However, the mission "Their Finest Hour," run in the same session with the same EXE, has a sexy background, the stars dont go all blurry when I turn and runs perfectly smoothly at 60fps, with many many more ships than my mission onscreen.

Weird. I definitely want to see that log.
If you are on Vista, and have FS2 installed to C:\Program Files\, go to the data directory, and press the "Compatibility Files" button.
Also, it would help if you could attach that mission as well.
