The following situation occurred to my friend today over at Georgia Tech University.
So, I'm walking home from classes, as usual.
The route to west campus for basically everybody that walks involves going through this little field called the burger bowl.
It gets about as much traffic as the quad does at the UW.
Although there aren't any buildings near it, and it's not in the center of campus, half of campus walks across it at least twice a day.
So, I'm walking across the concrete path there, and I see a little flash of motion off to my left.
A fraction of a second later something hits me in the ribs and I'm flying through the air horizontally.
Two seconds later I'm on the ground seven feet from where I was, writhing in pain.
Reportedly by this time the guy that tackled me is running away laughing.
I never saw him, but about four other people saw it, and they say that a guy that was just randomly sprinting across the field put his shoulder down and tackled me at a full sprint.
Like, seriously whacked me.
Out of the blue.
I got maybe two frames of warning.
Fifteen seconds later, some people are telling me not to move in case my spine is injured and telling the 911 dispacher that, "Yeah, he's conscious and alert".
Apparently I got hit really, really hard.
Five minutes later, the police are getting statements from everybody.
Ten minutes later, some EMTs are are done asking me to move my neck in case it's broken and have strapped me to a gurney and are wheeling me away.
Fifteen minutes later I'm in an ambulance (no lights, thankfully), and they're driving me to a hospital to make sure that I don't have any internal damage.
Four hours later, they finally let me out.
Three MDs, four nurses, and an ultrasound machine later.
They eventually decide that their original worry, that my kidneys were in trouble, turned out not to be the case, and that I'm free to go.
They've prescribe me a seriously scary dose of ibuprofen to take tomorrow and told me that I'm going to need it.
To recap: My friend was walking through a peaceful green field with at least 10 or more people nearby when some totally random person tackled him hard enough to send him to the hospital for no immediately obvious reason whatsoever. THAT is a bad day.

I guess Terry Tate the Office Linebacker has some competition.
But seriously, ouch. Friday the 13th indeed.
-
Was the guy apprehended?
-
Yikes! :eek2: I can't believe anyone would actually do such a thing as that, I'm enraged just from reading it. I sincerely hope the guy gets caught and does time.
Glad your friend made it through without serious injury, that is exeedingly fortunate.

Was the guy apprehended?
I don't know. There were like 10 witnesses so I'm assuming it won't be very long.

I just noticed that :P

Guy was probably on something.

Did they catch the guy who did it?

I lost some of my hearing on the March Friday the 13th of 2009 at some event I was at...it's really annoying. And there are 3 of them (Friday the 13th's) this year, did anybody else notice?
I've been tackled for no apparent reason at school, but that's much worse than what I recieved...
Hope your friend's bruises heal quickly, bh. :)

My left ear was ringing earlier today after I got home. I'm pretty sure its the damn freeway. My hearing is precious to me and I protect my ears as much as I can, but in today's society it's exceedingly difficult to avoid hearing loss when everyone else around you doesn't seem to mind. The only option that would really do anything is wearing earplugs all day :\

Georgia Tech University
It's just Georgia Tech.
And yeah, my money's on a random prank by drunk fraternity brothers. Sadly enough, this seems like something they might do: get drunk and go screw with someone for the hell of it. Even on a Friday morning, because there's no bad time to GET TOTALLY WASTED YEAHHHH
The frats here can be just plain stupid sometimes...
(32 minutes to kickoff, yay)
