Title: Finally tried it
Post by: Red01MustangGT on November 24, 2009, 11:03:00 am
Hey Everybody.  I've kinda kept my eye on this since 2002, coming over once in a while to see how things are going.  Well this last weekend I decided to finally buckle down and give this a shot.  I installed FS2, then I downloaded and copied over all the mediavps files (and patch), the launcher, the FS1 "mod" all the ogg cutscenes for FS1 and FS2 and it works great.  I love it.  Seriously, fantastic job to everybody who has worked on this.

I tried to copy the whole Games/FreeSpace2 folder to a DVD and put it on my work laptop.  The game seems to work fine, except when playing FS2 (with or without the mediavps "mod"), the loading screen between missions is messed up.  Doesn't seem to affect gameplay, but instead of the regular loading screen graphic I get at home, I see a green screen, with garbled graphics at the top inch or so of screen and the loading bar (loading bar seems to be fine).  Could this be because I didn't actually "install" FS2?  Like I said, doesn't seem to affect anything as far as the gameplay goes so I'm not TOO worried about it.

Also, not sure if this is an issue or not, maybe it's just that I forgot so much about the game, but when I loaded it up and went into the ship selection for first mission (after trainings) and the GTF Myrmidon says it has 2 missile banks, but if you go into select your weapons you seem to have 3... I know with the primary weapons it says 6 even though you only have 2 slots, but this is because one slot fires 4 and one fires 2, so this makes sense to me.

Anyway, thanks again guys, I'm really enjoying going through the campaign again.

I used to have this issue too. I think it has been corrected in new builds cause it doesn't occur anymore, be sure you're running FSO 3.6.10.

Yea, I'm running 3.6.10, plus the 3.6.10 patch, and the 5.5e launcher.  I just realized that I may need to update my drivers on my work laptop.  Gonna give that a shot.  If it works I'll reply here.

So I still have the issue even with the latest drivers.  My GPU is Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family if that helps.  It's ok if this can't be fixed.  I'm going to try taking the DVD to my in-laws house, where I built their PC and see if the issue is still there, maybe it's just my laptop.

That would be it. Intel graphics solutions work badly at best.

You're running in OpenGL, right? DirectX is depreciated.

Dude! D-E-P-R-E-C-A-T-E-D. It's a different word, with a different meaning.

Besides which, even if he chose DirectX it would still run in OpenGL, DirectX has been disabled for quite a while now.
