Potentially, anyway. This is just a rough concept for now, but it could become an actual event. The idea is to get a bunch of people together and do something more than a dinner or bar get-together -- like perhaps our own mini-convention. There would be multiplayer competitions, previews of unreleased campaigns, and lots of pizza.
So what I need to know from y'all is how many of you would attend. It would only be worth doing something big and complicated if we got a lot of people; if only two people show up we won't get a good return on investment. Vote in the poll as to whether you'd plan on coming if we announced an actual event.
At this point there's no firm date or location; those will be decided based on the responses in this thread. We may choose to piggy-back on some other gaming convention in the DC area (yes, there are a few around) to bootstrap the organization.
-
Possible, but very unlikely.
-
Keep at it!
People will attend

Like I said on IRC I'll try to work some leave around it. This actually sounds like a fun time. I mean, I'm not huge on gaming conventions or anything, but DC's always a great place to visit.
-
It depends a lot on the timing and what exactly is planned. I like the idea of a LAN or something like that (just getting together wouldn't be much of a draw for me). I probably won't be free regularly until the summer, although I will be in that area a few times before then for other things.
-
I could probably do it
-
Idunno, maybe.
Edit: sure, why not?
-
count me in for sure. as long as i have a few months heads up, i'm there.
-
i think we should have a LAN
-
I think the previews of unreleased campaigns would be fun too.
-
If DC == District of Columbia, sure. I could go as long as it happens on a weekend. Oh, and hopefully if computers are provided. I can bring my own, but that would suck. I've been around here for a while, but I don't really post.
-
Living 5 minutes from DC, I'm down for this. :) Some sort of LAN would be fun, and if there's enough of us interested and over 21 hitting a bar sounds good too.
Thinking about transportation, the metro would be a good bet for anything in the DC/metro area, or if enough of us have access to cars, maybe we can carpool as well.
-
When in the year would this be?
-
Spring Break or late June-July might be a safe bet, considering college students.

I need to know what would work best for the 11 who voted.
-
Um... Any time after mid-June until mid August is good, because I don't have school and I go on vacation for two weeks in August.
-
^ That's pretty much the exact same with me.
-
Possibly significant point... I turn 21 in March, so before that I'm not drinking age...
-
It appears mid summer would be preferred for most people? I don't mind either way.
-
Possible, but very unlikely.

:bump:
Update:
This probably will not be happening this year in an official sense. But I will be checking out T-MODE (http://tmode.org/) in two weeks with an eye for a possible event next year. If anybody else is attending, we can put together some sort of unofficial meetup.
-
I would go, but it just looks creepy to me :nervous:
-
If it's not happening this year can I suggest a topic title change?
HLP DC book your place now.
Or something similar.
-
I'll be making a two and a half week roadtrip from Omaha to Augusta later in May, so if anyone wants to meet up anywhere along the way, I'm down. Haven't determined the exact route yet, but it's going to one of these two:
1) I-80 through Iowa and Illinois to Chicago, I-65 through Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee to Nashville, then I-24 to Atlanta.
2) I-29 to Kansas City, I-70 to St Louis, then I-24 to Atlanta.
If anyone lives along either of those routes, give me a headsup and we can do lunch or something.
-
I know the Battman is from Chicago and I'm in northwest Indiana, if that's any help to you.
-
So is this not gonna happen?
-
There are still eight'ish months before the title needs changing....
-
That is true, but I suspect it may be 8 months of... well, what we're doing right now.
-
I think the London series has been successful because dates are simply being set and letting details be amended rather than trying to agree on an initial date in the first place.
Also see if There's an event it can be based around. . . Film or something, you get the idea.
Of course, it depends how many people are willing to put in the effort on DCs end.
-
Well, that's why I made reference to T-MODE above. It had specific date, location, and details. But nobody from HLP showed up to the convention, and nobody replied on this thread suggesting an alternative.
And I rather think that HLP London is successful because people are located closer together.
-

Exactly. Most of you London folk are, what, an hour away from the meeting place by train at most? Just as example, DC would be a two-to-three-hour car ride for me, and that's a city I'd consider being relatively close.
-
I won't apologise for our centralisation. I'll just recommend that you guys just make more effort :p

Yeah, and I think the nearest HLPer to me is Scotty down in Kansas...and then someone in Colorado...and then our mass of HLPTexans. So...yeah.
-
Me and Tura and Klaus are like 4 hours from DC. Me and Tura would totally come though. :D
-
Well, why didn't you respond to the T-MODE post then?
-
I don't know what T-MODE is. Also I was banned for like a month.
-
I linked to it (http://tmode.org/).
-
Nice reference there, Goober.
-
FUBAR's idea.
You should see what iamzack volunteered to do on IRC. :shaking:
-
Epic Title is Epic
-
I might come if it were in SF. :(
-
BE A MAN
COME TO DC
-
But it's soooooooooo far. :(
-
NO EXCUSE
-
Flying out to SF took half a day, we're not that special over here
-
heh.
I'd be up for that. But probably in August-September when I'm back for classes. This is supposing its in the washington DC metro area, however.
-
Hey Singh! A blast from the past. When are you going to finish your fanfic? :p
-
Wild Singh appeared!
-
Nuclear threw a Fanfic Ball!
Oh no! Singh broke free!
-
what the hell is happening with this!?
huh?
-
Nothing, at the moment.
-
well i'm ready to go... just sayin'...
-
Cool. Not sure if anything will come together though.
-
As a side-note, if I got money, I will attend something like this. Set a date and we'll negotiate. :p
-
Why does the US have to be so big?
You know what, I'm gonna have a Raleigh, NC meet-up this weekend. Screw you guys.
-
Well...for the Plains folks, I'm definitely willing to do something in the Iowa/Kansas/Nebraska/Colorado/South Dakota/Missouri area.
And I know that applies to about maybe...three HLPers I can think of. There's someone who lives in Aurora, Scotty lives in Kansas last I checked, and I'm in Omaha.
-
We'll be at the Balsam Mountain campground near Cherokee.
See you guys there.

I'm in Kansas City.
-
I'm in StL, kind of on the outskirts of that. But I have lots of friends in KC, I could easily make it there.
-
WHAT: HLP DC
WHERE: Washington DC, DUH
WHEN: December 31 of this year!
WHO: WHOEVER CAN MAKE IT D:
WHY: WHO CARES LETS PARTY :yes::yes:
-
Who all is going? Since I don't need a passport I could maybe make this one :P
-
A one way train ticket from here is $46. Maybe.
-
raleigh has the greatest number of HLPers. logic says we should do it here :D
-
Need to do it sooooooon.
2010 is in it's last quarter.
-

How many HLPers in Raleigh? I could perhaps drive down there if it's over winter break. <.<
-
three, but one of them is me which is enough of a reason for no one to come to raleigh, ever

You mean iamzack?
-

is there a problem here ossifer
-
Eh Raleigh's not that bad. Would prefer Wilmington though...
-
See? This is why HLP USA hasn't happened yet. Someone suggests a city, then several other people come in and go "Naaah let's do this city instead."
What's wrong with DC? It's a major city, lot's of stuff to do and see (come on, it's practically the world capital), it's smack in the middle of the east coast and is close to a lot of HLP members.
-

I misread the statement as more saying "including me, there are three Raleigh HLPers. One of them is enough reason to stay away."
-
I agree, people need to commit, even IF it is just two three. Gotta say, i'd enjoy a week in New York if given sufficient notice to save dosh. :nervous: six months or so.
New York's more "Internationally" anyway :p
I digress, although the UK scale is a lot smaller travel distance-wise. We have our core players because we commit.
Who knows, if the northern lot ever sort one out I may be tempted to slum it too ;) again given enough notice.
Edit- beaten to the post. . . . Lul :bah:
-
Yep. The reason HLP London became so big is because there were 3-4 core players who could be counted on to always turn up. Once you have semi-regular meetings you're more likely to get people to attend. If, next time I'm in London, someone suggests a night out up north I'd be more likely to go cause I could count on Dekker or Terran Emperor being up for it too. So even though it's a bit distant I know I'd have company on the train there and back.
Now I know that the States is a big place but I don't believe you can't find 3 people in the greater New York area to meet up for a drink! :p
-
yeah one of these days I'm going to have to just get up, lie to my parents and friends for money, and run off for an HLP London.
anyway, it's a long shot but anyone here trying to run the 2011 NYC marathon?
-
So is this topic going to need a re-title as there's only abot a week left for something to happpen?
-
Nope. Cause the event it refers to could only take place in 2010.
Now, we might make a new thread with 2011 in the title.
