Title: Another ship of mine...
Post by: pecenipicek on December 04, 2009, 06:11:30 am
A modification of my older model you all came to hate :p

In any case, i've been also experimenting with various effects a lot too, soo...

Comments very welcome.

I like the blueish glow effect, and the reflection on the hull. how did you manage to get that reflection??

pretty cool and I like the muzzle effect at the front

the below assumes it is a crewed ship

though for my tastes its a little to massive cannon and not enough ship crew areas, some where to stash a power generator or two + fuel that sort of thing.

though if it's a drone then i suppose the stubs near the engine would do it but as i say these are my own opinions on what a ship "should" look like

Rodo, which area do you speak of? As far as i remember i didnt use any actual reflections on those textures. just a layered noise in color, bump and specular channels multiplying the base bluish color + a fresnel controlled diffusion map, to keep the damn thing from glowing (the base texture)

headdie, its a drone ship. main power generation is the rear expanded where the engine is. the stubs are... umm dunno. something. someone ought to write up a description :p

I mean in this pic: (http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/825/ffmod2.jpg)

you'll see some stripes on the inner part, those are just normal maps ? or it's actual model geometry?

model geometry. the bluish glow is controlled via a vertex map in intensity and coverage. i dunno how much you know but you can think of the vertex map as an alpha channel of sorts.
