Title: Silent Threat on Windows 7 ?
Post by: mickey on December 07, 2009, 04:39:00 am

I am trying to install Descent Freespace Silent Threat on my PC which has Windows 7 (Home) installed on it.
I've got the original Freespace installed and it runs fine under Windows 7. But when I try to install Silent Threat as well I get the following error message:-

"Setup did not detect Freespace in your system registry, aborting..."

Anyone know what registry entry it is expecting - or any other way to get round this ?

Many thanks,
M.

FSOpen would probably help you out.

Got it working now. Did some tinkering in the regsitry, namely:-

1. look for the registry key "FreespaceP3OEM". the path is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Volition/FreespaceP3OEM
2. rename "FreespaceP3OEM" to "Freespace" (do not put the quotation marks).

Then could install Silent Threat no problem.

Thanks for your help,
M.

Why you'd want to play Silent Threat when Silent Threat Reborn is available is another issue entirely, of course.  :p

Hey, you need the original as a comparison point to see just how much ST:R improved on it. :p

Oh, you're using the same OEM DVD as I have. Note that ST will NOT install properly unless you remove the Read Only property from the game files. This is important! Do it!
