Where you worked as the secret ops in Freespace 2, I forgot the name but you went with an NTF raid on a GTVA supply deport.
A civilian transport than arrives begging for mercy; the NTF poised to strike the trap.
- I did the foolish thing and tried to keep my cover so I blew up the transport with a heavy heart. I died soon afterwards.
What were your stories?
-
Shoved half a dozen missiles up my squad lead's tailpipe, kicked in my burners, and waited for backup to arrive.
-
I also blew it up. Then I got yelled at in briefing :(

So did I but I blew up before I would've been able to depart. Since it turned out that I can't keep my cover, I played as a good guy next time.
-
I didn't move and let hem attack the sentry guns alone. That killed a few of them. Well, to be honest I did help the sentry guns a bit by weakening my squadmates a bit :P
-
I tried killing it the first time, but was so inept at aiming, my squad accused me of being a traitor because I failed to kill it. Seriously. (I didn't know that I could just park and shoot at it.)
I then proceeded to dodge until backup arrived. :nervous:
Man, I was an idiot then...amazing I got that far at all.
-
I blew the transport up, then, after I found out that I couldn't keep my cover, I did the same to my former wingmen.
Backup helped my finish the Aeolus, though I mostly did it alone (disabling an Aeolus and getting close to it's rear engine is a marvelous solution against them).
-
First time I played i just stood and started thinking. A tad bit too long might I say. The guys started shooting at me. I shot back. I splashed Alpha and Beta and ran as fast as i could from the Aeolus. Then I got saved.
The second time I said "eh, what the hell" and shot down the transport and did all the rest just the same. I can't say command liked it :nervous:
-
I paused for a minute or two thinking about it in-game, then when they told me to hurry up I turned around and open fired on the NTF fighters
Eventually they figured out I was hostile and started shooting :doubt:
-
One of my gripes against that mission is that they take too long to realize that i've betrayed them. Usually when i play that mission i manage to kill a good 2 or 3 of them before they realize, "Oh Wait hes trying to kill us. We should be angry."
-
I stood idle there like an idiot waiting for "something else" to come along, nothing did and I ended up dead, on the second run I destroyed the transport and they attacked as well, but I survived... I was really mad at the frikking NTF firing squad (or something like that).
-
I killed half of my wingmen just as they started their attack run on the cargo.
And then I murdered Jack Niven while he was in the middle of saying "Time's up, pilot! We know all abou-" *BOOM*
-
First time I played I tried to shoot my squad mates, but didn't kill any of them before they turned on me.
-
"Oh really now, just kill a bunch of civilians like that? Well you know what? F*** That" and I started killing the NTF fighters instead. I was happy command finally deceided it was time to get me out of there afterwards.
-
As I recall my wingmen were no use at all, they apparently either didn't attack or couldn't hit the sentry guns or cargo, and I was so screwed up by the sentries and doing my wingmen's job that when the transport arrived I said something along the lines of "ahahaha **** you I'm dying over here you do it jackass" while I tried to recharge my shields.
...they of course didn't, and I couldn't order them to. So I was happy to kill them when they went hostile.
ALWAYS LISTEN TO ALPHA 1 *****ES.
-
I obliged without hesitation. :P
The first time anyway.
Then I experemented with other playthroughs.
I'm sure everyone's done that though. ;)
-
I just kind idled expecting something to happen, as it seemed a bit fishy they wanted me in particular to blow it up. Soon after I was busy dodging.

On the first playthrough I refused to fire at the transport. Then my wingmates got nasty and I blew them away eventually as well. Tough battle.... I remember being down to 3% hull when friendly reinforcements arrived!
-
I hesitated and fired a few lazy shots until they started to ask me why I wasn't shooting it. Then I realized "IT'S A TRAP" and hit the burners. Unfortunately, I was playing on Hard and did not survive the furball.
-
I fired on the transport, but I did so to knock out the Subach turret. I did not destroy it, and did not intend to.
Now, I did replay the mission at one point to see what would happen if I did destroy it, but that's about it.
-
I thought about it a little, until they threatened to kill me. I got behind an enemy, stayed there and waited if they really would attack. They did, and I shot them down.
I honor the Beta Aquilea Convention!
-
What did I do? I completely slaughtered the innocents. Then died. Then completely slaughtered them again and won the fight. . .
-
NTF scum!!!
-
I can be a mean sod without an affiliation you know ;)
-
You sound like a mercenary, Colonol. :)
-
Freelancing is all the better. :D
-
Mercenary? There's an idea. . Give it ten years and i'll see what I feel like doing. My skillset is pretty unique.
-
Freelancing is all the better. :D
Oh yeah, Freelancer... ;)
-
I dun remember, but it must have went smoothly since i played most of the campaign on Very Easy >.<'
-
I did not blow it up the first time around. I was of course playing on Very Easy then, so I easily survived the mission.
Then the next time I replayed the campaign, I specifically remembered to destroy the transport in advance, even before I was welcomed by Loukakis. :D
It's weird that you kill the civilians, and instead of not allowing to progress or being forced to run some more near-suicide missions in compensation, I'm awarded a medal!
-
Wait. You blew up the Omega in ...But Hate the Traitor and got an SOC Unit Crest? :wtf:
-
I seem to recall that happening frequently myself.
-
Wait. You blew up the Omega in ...But Hate the Traitor and got an SOC Unit Crest? :wtf:
Yes. And as I replayed the main campaign this week, I specifically checked on this. It does grant you the award.
-
But hate the traitor, IS the one where the NTF finally suss you out right?
-

isnt that one "love the treason..."
followed up by "...but hate the traitor" in which the NTF sus you?
-
Love the Treason... is the one with the Hawako.
...But Hate the Traitor is when you can choose to destroy a civilian transport or not.
The latter certainly gives you a medal.
-
Love the Treason... is the one with the Hawako.
Hamako.
-
Hey man, give him a break. Even :v: spells it wrong. :p

Yeah, you kinda gotta "play by the rules". I just wait till the guy says "time's up etc." before opening up on them.
Otherwise it's too easy to cheat.
-
l let them all attack the sentries alone, which kill a couple or so of them, then when the transport jumped in, I killed the rest of them before they had the chance to go hostile.

I personnally attacked them a few seconds before they went hostile, because i though they would attack the transport themself.
I don't think this is cheating, is it ?
-
Killing your "Wingmen" without having them turn hostile before the transport ever arrives to get an advantage.
-
I screwed up in the previous mission and lost the Hamako in my first playthrough, my cover and that of Snipes was blown and I was sent on my way. :( Wasn't until I played through a second time that I even found out that there was a third mission in that loop, and then I blew up the transport to keep my cover to see if there was a fourth... unfortunately not, and I only managed to escape with 9% hull integrity.
-
The first time I played it, I just waited until they turned hostile. I was half expecting something to happen.
Later on, I realized that you can just nail them all at the beginning of the mission. The mission has the "no traitor" flag set, so they don't notice anything. :D I tend to do that and only keep the guys who talk alive, as the dialogue gets messed up otherwise.
-
on my first go i blew up the transport
-
First time I played, I tried to jump out, and was told that I didn't have the codes for the drive. Did nobody else do this?
-
I didn't even think twice about what to do. I directed a mental "**** you!" in the direction of the NTF pilots and opened fire...and then started dodging for my life. :p
-

There was nothing on the directives list telling me to jump out, so I didn't. :p
-
To the first post:
I shot my wingman right away, and they never changed to hostile even after I blew up one of them. The escape pods survived and I was sitting there wondering why they didn't bother firing back (the NTF)
-
Escape pods ? oO
-
He probably means the transport.
-
Ssshhhh
It was late, be quiet
