I'm writing my debris tut and just wanted a max number that can realistically be used per ship.
I've heard there are caps with up to 23 pieces, but wanted a second opinion.
Realistically I can't imagine fighters really going above 7 or so.
Caps... 2 to... ???

I've been researching this too, and I found that there is a max limit of 32 "main" debris pieces (the ones that get spewed when the ship dies).
You can also assign subsystem debris, and so far I have reason to believe that each subsystem can have a maximum of 7 debris pieces, and this will not have an effect on the main debris count. Have yet to confirm the subsystem debris does not affect main debris count, but the maximum is still 7.

Okay, just a slight update, the maximum number of debris you can have on a ship, including main hull and subsystem debris, is 32. Go above this and FSO will have a cow.
