Title: FSO 3.6.10 and FSO debug
Post by: Fistleaf on January 01, 2010, 10:10:16 am
What's the difference between FS2_Open_3_6_10.exe and FS2_Open_3_6_10_debug.exe?
I downloaded the files using Turey's installer and only the debug file works whether I am using the launcher or manually double-clicking the debug exe.  The FS2_open_3_6_10.exe file always crashes immediately no matter whether I am using the launcher or manually opening the file.  I redownloaded the FS2_open_3_6_10.exe file using a link from the forum page but it still crashes.  Is this file corrupted or does the debug file disable some settings to allow it to run?

I am using Windows Vista and the error message given when the exe file crashes is that the file has stopped working.  I can play using the debug exe just fine with all graphics settings maxed out, so it looks like only the main fso exe file has a problem.

:wtf: Debug builds are meant for testing and bughunting. Usually they throw error reports a lot more compared to the normal (release) builds, and as such they are not really meant for playing.

Since you have been running the debug build, there should be a file called fs2_open.log in \freespace2\data\ . Please post it or its contents here. If you can' t see it, you'll probably have to give a DNA sample or use the lie detector or whatever Vista may want from you in the name of security.

I have attached the log file.  I have finished downloading the basic mediavp files but only partially downloaded the advanced vp file, could this be the reason for the crash?  When I set the launcher to "No Mod", the fso exe file works, but it crashes with the mod set to mediavp.

Ok, I think I found the problem.  I need to download the mediavp 3.6.10 patch first.  Now it's working fine, thanks for the help.
